Would anyone buy a bike in Ny city from a wheelie boy?? He bought it new (15 yz250) and has title. I'm bringing 2 of my boys for "backup". So other than safety, worn out tires and a flat spot on rear fender, the bike looks brand new at a very good price.
Thoughts?

If it's legit who cares.
Will probably have less wear and damage than a year old bike that's been raced.

If it's perfectly legit , then have them meet you in a public place. I do that with everything I buy or sell.

Do people always meet at a public place to by a bike, or take 2-3 of their Boyz for backup?...just curious...

Ask the seller to meet at a Police Station parking lot. If they decline you have your answer.

Most people who buy off the internet usually do it that way.

I think living there it might be a good idea. Hell , even here in Portland , if I sell a bike or buy one off of CL , I always make sure to bring at least one buddy. You never know what you might meet up with. And public places or police stations are good for both buyers and seller's.

Call the guy up and ask him if you can trade drugs for the bike. I'm sure he'll take you up on it.

Shooting people with a gun over a dirt bike deal is always a good idea. You are spot on Lenny. Glad you are here to add those insights.

I'd say half the people that came into my shop don't and they aren't "wheelie boys", Just run of the mill enthusiasts.
Buying any used bike is a gamble.

I thought he was talking about having a mouse in his pocket.

I met Lenny in real life once, thought he had a banana in his pocket, but it turned out that he was just really happy to see me... True story!

I never said to shoot anyone..I said, "It's better to get caught with it, than without it"...

maybe when he stole the bike he stole the title too

Pretty common to buy/sell in a public place. If I'm selling something, especially a bike that is in the garage, I don't want them to know where I live so they can say no thanks and come back later to steal it (or other valuables in the garage).

So fucked up that people are assuming the kid stole the bike. So racist. You can make like $10,000 in a week selling rocks. I'm sure he bought it fair and square.

I like in a "lower crime" area in the midwest and one of the local police stations added an area in their parking lot designated "internet sales" for a meeting place that people can use when completing internet sales transactions.

Is is a YZ250 two stroke? if so I say fine. I have some doubt that the oiling system in four stroke engines will actually function as designed when the bike is ridden in 12 o'clock wheelie position for three miles at a time. is the oil pickup even in a position where it will receive oil when the motor is turning 10000 rpm while rotated nearly 90 degrees backward in wheelie position? maybe not. some streetbikes can easily be trashed by wheelying too long and too vertical because the oil pickup is sucking air.

this would trash the head first and cause heavy top end wear

Consider that the bike has spent it's whole life on the original oil, and that as a wheelie bike, good chance that oil could have been sloshed away from the oil pump for minutes at a time.

No thanks.

If that really would happen here, I would not believe I was on Vitalmx.

That is a fantastic idea. Here in San Diego a young couple were murdered over a Craigslist laptop purchase. I would never do ANY large cash/merchandise transaction with strangers that was not in a secure area. Banks are also a good meeting place
