Want to know a little more about Air Forks - Pro Circuit's Bones talks about the Showa Fork they have been testing/racing that might be for sale in 2013 as a kit or update to the standard SSF fork.

Noooooooooooooooo,

Thats what they said about the Hindenburg!

I think it's odd that riders question air forks yet accept fuel injection with open arms. I have move faith in a mechanical seal than some wiring and computer mumbo jumbo. I've never had my tires go flat for no reason yet my computer stops working for no reason regularly. The Hindenburg was filled with Hydrogen.

I wonder how air forks are going to affect after market suspension companies regarding rebuilds, oil changes, swaping springs etc...

How often are they going to be need rebuilt, compared to oil forks?

Maybe I'm a skeptic but the Marzocchi 888's I had on my downhill rig weren't the best. Any air fork or air shock that I have ridden recently just doesn't seem to have the feel of a oil/ coil setup. It seems to blow through the stroke quicker then immediately get progressive and stiff. The feeling isn't consistent all the way through.

The damping system is still the same. And I'm pretty sure the air spring still uses oil. There's still a bunch of seals and stuff that will need replacing.

Coming from the ATV side of things we have been using Fox Racing Air Shocks for years. They are different than a traditional coil/spring setup and that can be a positive and negative. The positive is that its very cheap and easy to change the damping charectoristics, simply with an air pumps. That works as a catch 22 also, you can also drastically go from ok suspension to horrible if you do not have an idea what you are doing. It also teaches you to learn about your suspension even more instead of just having a suspension company change your valving and springs and run it. I think the dirtbike community will be very pleased with airforks.

So I am wondering how long it will be before we see air shocks again. A couple years ago didn't Fox come out with a new conventional shock and it didn't sell? Maybe if they had invested in an updated air design that was 2 lbs lighter it might have been a hit...

I'm eyeballing a set of Fox Float air shocks for a lightweight vintage bike project I'm working on. Got a NOS set of CH Racing Omega 1 air shocks that are a bit too long. If I can shorten them up I'll probably run them as they save about 6-8 pounds over a set of conventional spring shocks. Super light shit.

just because you understand a flat tire = a tire with no air does not mean that computers quit working for no reason.

Maybe you don't know the reason but there is no more reason to trust a tire to hold air than a computer to keep computing.

it's not magic or religion.
