Bike prices

I just saw this at a local shop. $4800 and it's just received quite a few updates like ABS ($5400 for that model), it's now a 300, fuel injected, updated frame, adjustable suspension. I'm just baffled why they can't or don't make mx bikes for this price, it's what we need at this point.

They build and sell A LOT more street bikes than MX bikes, that's why.

I did at first, it was in an article about the 300 and 636 and I embedded the wrong pic. I thought it looked a little too trick.

And they don't come off of the "R" line in Japan right across from the Bullet-Train ass'y building...aka...pricier labor.

You would think Yamaha could release an eight year old semi modern two stroke and sell a shit ton of them for four grand a pop. They probably wouldn't be too far off from a modern bike. LOL

Would be nice, even with a little older suspension technology etc. Still the numbers probably aren't there.

Especially if they built them in Malaysia, Thailand or Taiwan...

The new Honda CRF250L is made in Thailand & is A LOT of motorcycle for $4500.

btw, it's a bit heavy...yet...there's A LOT of crap to take off of it for "Trail-Duty"...
EFI
Fairly decent suspension
Great lil Engine (6sp)
Plenty of potential...

Let them bury themselves with the techno marvels. Then we can go back to cheap, simple dirtbikes when they try to get market shares back just to keep their names alive.

Just look at what you see on here. A lot of guys are buying the old 2 strokes and fixing them up for not very much money, and I've seen them on these pages, and they're beautiful. Yamaha hasn't changed the 125 or 250 2 stroke in years, but still produce them. They should be able to rip off hundreds of those bikes at a very low cost. If they passed it on to us, they would get rid of every one of them. The new bikes are aimed at the pro scene, and the next generation of home schoolers that want to make it to the top. And there are a lot of them. That's where most of the 4 strokes bikes go. For the saturday or sunday racer, that's been doing it for years, we want reliability and fun. And those complex new bikes don't deliver it. 8G, and it grenades 2 months later, and it's another 2G to fix it. It's crazy. This economy can't support that, and it's only going to get worse. Guys can have tons of fun at a track for 2G, instead of spending 10. Bikes are way to expensive. Parents can't justify the expense in this economy for the kids to get into it, and the rest can't afford it. MX always seemed to be a grass roots sport. Guys jumping on what they got and going at it. But with these prices and problems on the new bikes, it seems to take it out of that realm. It's not affordable. That's why all these guys are scooping up the 2's. You could sell a blown 2, 5 years old, for more than a running 4. Because everyone knows it's gonna blow.

With the median income of this country falling back to what it was in the early 90's that makes sense. Problem is very few people would buy the high priced 4 strokes if you could pick up a new 2 stroke for that price. People don't have the buying power they once did, everything has got to expensive for most moto guys and the sport continues to go backwards.

Well not everything, used 2 strokes and new KTM 2 strokes seem to be selling like hot cakes. lol
