My left wrist has degraded due to arthritis and tendonitis. I can stil ride, but was thinking which size bike would be easier on the wrist joint? I'd think a 250 2T would be lighter on the front end compared to a 450, but the a 450 (or 500) would be able to lift the front end over more obstacles on miss whoop easier? I plan on using the twisted engineering composite handlebars to reduce impact hits, maybe Neken triple clamps too.

A 250 2T will be more violent, a 450 heavier. Pick your poison

The size of the bike doesn't matter. The set up of your suspension and your handlebars will make the biggest difference. The Flexx bars are worth a look too, a lot of people with bad wrists swear by them. A steering damper is worth a look too.

250F. Heavier than a 125 but not as busy. About the same weight as a 250 2 stroke but not as violent. 450? F' that heavy ass overpowered pig...Laughing

Toss on a set of Fasst Co. Flexx Bars

Then add the Boyesen Flex grip to the left side.

Id look more towards a platform which is stable by nature, and not conducive to headshake, then work with a suspension guy to set it up for you such that you dont get headshake. You will also want to ride smooth to limit casing and overjumping things as much as possible. Riding smooth can go a long way in prolonging your daily seat time, as well as your years on the bike.

You could also get in touch with a physical therapist and work with them on developing some strectchas, and exercises specific to your injury.

I ride them all and with two arthritic wrists, my right suffers from tendinitis as well. I honestly hurt if I ride or not so fuck it. But Newman's got the right line, 250F....I take that back, I've not rode a 350.
Regardless, go get a cortisone shot if you haven't tried one yet. It's like the difference in having a Rekluse ...or not for the Colorado Rockies Boundry trail.

As in TTR.

And don't take it beyond 3rd gear.

I wouldn't worry about the bike so much as what's on it. Go all out on your suspension, forks AND shock. Try the tubliss set up to run lower tire pressures. Flex bars. Pillow top grips. And a steering damper, but not a Honda damper. You need a real damper (gpr, scotts, ohlins)

you seriously need to hop on a new 450 and give them a ride. I think you will change your tune about the overweight part anyway. Overpowered, I guess that depends on your right hand/brain combo?

250f is down right the easiest of all full size mx bikes to ride and control if you aren't at full strength.

A good friend of mine has a bad wrist, he rides a 250 two-stroke. He is very particular about suspension set up, and he won't go without his Flexx bars. I don't think the engine size matters as much as getting your suspension and ergonomics comfortable for your wrist.

Add turmeric to your diet. Its in the vitamin section of your grocery. It is for inflammation. Hands down it is the best supplement to combat arthritis and tendonitis. It works. Add it to your diet and do wrist and finger stretches regularly. You will notice a difference within a week.

I've starting taking Tumeric and a product called Limbrel500 (see photo of box), prescribed by sports medicine physician. He says it takes 3 months before you feel a difference. I like the idea of a steering stabilizer, Boyesen left grip and flex or twisted bars. Kinda favoring a bigger engine size/light bike to prevent casing stuff and dropping the front wheel in holes. Thinking of putting an ESR 325 on my YZ250?

After you do all the above, make sure your bar bend/position are correct. Experiment with your lever position too. These adjustments help a lot with arm pump and they would have to help with arthritis pain, I'd guess.

Cinnamon is supposed to be really good for inflammation and arthritis too. And call Cole Townsend at Fasst Co and get some of those bars for sure.
