The new ktm 250 2 strokes are amazing.. in every aspect.

According to reed, ferry and basiclly the early yamaha guys they say the 2004 yamaha yz250 was amazing and they didnt like the alum framed yz's.

But i would also recommend a 06 and up yz just cause the suspension.

Current gen YZ250s IMO (06-present). Not the most power (KTM of course, the YZ is down a couple horses) but the suspension is far superior and it costs less to do the motor up a little than it does to upgrade the KTM's suspension to be on par with the YZ.

my 2006 KX250 rocks, but, im stubborn and cant see any positives in any bike that isnt mine!!!! Wink

that being said, I know the handling is great with the RM, the YZ does everything well because MXA says so, and the motors are really strong in the KTMs!!!!

Best thing to do is try and ride all the different ones as to the latest modles for the brand. Like honda 2007, Suzuki was 08 i think, Yamah pretty much 06- current which the SSS suspension is supereior to the WP stuff and I beleive Kawasaki was 07 or 08 KTM 12- current so you will get the linkage suspension. Its really going to be a personal preference not as to which is the best. They all have something thing that is better than another. me I prefer a CR 250 03-up not saying its the best but is suited me better. I hear the KTM is a sweet maching but the suspension is hard to get dialed. Also depends on your budget. Are you buying new or you trying to stay with in a cost means. That will be a key factor as wll. By all means if your buying new its either YZ , KTM or Husky but again all have different options and price diff that are superior from to the other.

I have a honda and love it.

It's hard to beat the YZ250.

I love this bike. and before it I was a blue bike 2 stroke fan. it does everything great. I wont lie I like the ktms too and will probably get one at some point. those bikes are like cheating but what do you expect when the Japanese manufacturers haven't done anything in 10+ years.

My 06 kx 250 was the best 250 2t I've ever raced(wish I never sold it), BUT it cost over $8000 to turn it into what Icalled the working man's works bike. In stock trim it was just ok, after I was done, it was flat out excellent..

But, coming off a 250f, I would say any newer yz, becuz the tractor like power and superb suspension.

My personal pick of the very best of this century would be the ktm. That's just overall best, but if I were buying a brand new one, I would buy the yz cuz I'm experienced enough now to know an easier more stable handling bike with a broader and smoother powerband and superb plush suspension is better than a fire breathing dragon that turns on a dime, stops on a dime and occasionally launches you 20ft farther than you intended.

I would buy the newly claded yz and never regret a second of it. People forget sometimes, but the yz 250 has an excellent, excellent engine. Add in awesome suspension and a great reliability record and excellent overall handlingand you got yourself a real winner...

In all honesty the new KTM's are probably out of my price range. So, what I'm gathering from this information is Yamaha's have the best suspension, Suzukis have the best handling, and KTM's have the best motor. You can't get everything. By the way how are the newer CRS?

sure about that?

fuckin' smoking deal right there, doesn't get much better for the price. if i were you i'd be hopping in the truck, driving to UT, watching the national, and taking a new bike home.

you can find some awesome deals on newer bikes (KTM, YZ) if you are patient and follow the classifieds

bit of work on the rm ,and it has as good as suspension as the yz , turns the best any bike every . Only rode the none linage ktm . it nearly has too much power . and def does nt handle near as good as both the yz and rm, don't know about the new ktms tho I heard there much improved from what I had a spin on. imo the rm is the best bike , but the yz is a great all round bike too. The cr s had a great engine , but did nt handle as well ,

Buy the yz because it is an awesome bike.

Also, if you buy used parts or if you need parts for it or wreck anything, it will be dirt cheap to find replacements because most all parts from 06-13 are the same and even yz250f parts are the same in a lot of cases.

I had an 07 rm 250 with dialed suspension and pc pipe and muffler. I loved that bike until I bought my 12 ktm 250 sx. The ktm turned into corners as good as the rm but drove straighter out and seemed to put the power to the ground better. Once I got heavier fork springs and a revalve the suspension was just as good. On the shock I just adjusted the sag and played with the clickers. The brakes were infinitely better and while the ktm motor had more power I felt it was smoother than the rm in delivery which made it easier to ride faster. Then there is always the option to change the ignition and powervalve springs. My vote is 12 to current ktm

What sort of mods are you talking about?

I just had TMR do my cylinder and head, the rest I have focused on my suspension with PC link and Race tech valving with springs!

KTM 300 is as good as a 2 stroke gets. The newer the better.

I am in agreement with the current models of YZ250 & KTM250 being awesome. I would put a vote in for the '01 CR250. The last of the cylinder reed motor (ripped...rivals the current cream!), twin chamber showa forks (smooth and responsive) and the 3rd gen(?) aluminum frame (pretty darn balanced). Amazing bike, in the top 3 for me.

I have had an 06 KX250, 06 CR250, 07 YZ250, 12 KTM 250. The best 250's I have ever ridden were my friends 03 YZ250 and my other friends 06 RM250. The KTM had a great motor but I hated the suspension. The YZ didn't turn to me but maybe that could be fixed with Tripple clamps. I had a PC motor in my CR and it was lightning fast but had no bottom end. The RM and 03 YZ seemed to have everything. I'm sure any late model two stroke can be made to be great. I did hate the KX though and I am a Kawi guy.

Cleanest 05+ rm250. It's such a good base with that chassis if your gonna sink some coin in it a spiff it up. Sooo fun to ride. Really though, it just comes down to finding a garage whore that's still fresh for a good price and forget color. Yami suspension will be tough beat and parts are way cheaper for oem stuff

I would recommend staying away from motorcycles that are out of production. It sucks to read about certain mods for the honda that are no longer made, or nationally distributed. The boyesen exhaust flange comes to mind on my cr250.
