Hey guys, im about to buy a new bike. Not brand new, but a few years old.
Im looking at a budget of say 3000 pounds. It wont be used for racing, just riding moderately at practice tracks.
Which brand is the most reliable and less likely to mess up. I dont have thousands to spend to repair it everytime i ride it, i do like Suzuki's but will get whatever is the best reliablity wise. was looking at a 250f or possibly a 350.

Thanks guys!

Yamaha or Honda for reliability. I would say Honda is easier to ride but the Yamaha is more competitive. Both more than good enough for most of us

Imo find a new leftover 15/16 rmz 250f. Not much more $$, and it's brand new. Buying a used 250f is a gamble.

04/05 rmz250, look for one with a paddle so you know it hasn't been raced, motor professionally gone thru is preferred

Sounds like you'd be better off going with a nice used 2stroke. Buying a used 250f could go either way depending on who owned it before. If you have to do any repair to the four stroke your looking at $$. 2stroke wouldn't cost hardly anything compared to that. But if you do get one I'd go with either Honda or Yamaha.

That's why I suggested new leftover, for a little bit more $$.

250 2stroke. You'll have a blast and sound much faster than you'll actually be going.

if I ever see an ad that says will throw in paddle tire i just keep browsing. Sand kills bikes. Give me a bike that does two 6 lap motos every wknd over a dune bike any day of the week

seems like people cant give away carb bikes to save their life. so if you aren't worried about the newest and best you might consider that. on this side of the pond a decent 250f carb could be had for $2000 US or less. that leaves a lot of money in the budget for a new top and bottom end plus a little bling.

this would only apply to a bike you plan on keeping for a long time because it would have little to no resale value.

But why would you do something like that when you could spend a little extra and get FI plus a lot nicer bike??

That's some fuunny shit, not sure sarcasm comes across
OP, 2014 is the year yzf was all new.
You could also look at 13-15 ktm 350, should be able to find one for around 3500-4000, and they were very reliable

Check out DocWob on Facebook / eBay. Sure he had a few tidy '14 250f yams around the £3-£3.5k mark the other week.
I'd try and collar someone with the GYTR EFI tuning tool as you can plug it in and see how many hrs it's done before parting with your cash on a "low hours" bike with new plastics & a can of bull-shit spray.

No that is the last old gen bike.

If you go with a Yamaha go with a 2014 or newer.

Since you are from UK i would recommend that you call Docwob.

When I hear "budget" and 250, I think two-stroke.

A lot of guys have 2010 and newer Honda Crf's here for casual riding, none of them ever have problems besides regular wear and tear. The guys who ride a lot harder though have had issues with frames though. Find the newest, cleanest, nicest bike, or one with the lowest hours in your budget, leave some room to spare for repairs or nicer parts down the line. You don't need something super expensive to have fun. The guys are right, stay away from a carb bike and def stay away from the older suzuki 250f's, they were never any good.

250's are time bombs. You dont wanna buy an old one it may cost you double. Get a 14 or newer. Or a 13 or newer 350. Plus the power came up substantially in the last 5 years. Well over 40hp now stock.

No, that's the last year of carburated yami.
14' is light years better.
