I was at this XC MTB race yesterday. definitely noticed some larger than normal beards, but didn't really notice Barcia... ( no way he flew back from WA and then raced MTB Sunday morning, right?)

check the "XC Men 19-29 Pro/Cat 1" class

Barcia is a badass, becoming a bigger fan of him every day.

the fact that he's so into MTB racing gives me even more reason to like him. awesome he was racing the next day

Right on! oh it was pretty hot-n-humid in NC for the XC race. we hit the lake right after our session finished.

very cool! Barcia nice work man!

Why the surprise? Is it because he was not out on a road bike? I would have thought MTB would be way more beneficial - just not day after a national at that level. Never used to be a Barcia fan but this past 18 months is different, hope he keeps it going.

the surprise is he did a xc race right the day after his mx race. most riders go out and have a easy recovery ride after race day. but he wouldn't be bambam if he wouldn't be bambam i guess. Laughing

I'm glad more people are starting to like Justin. He seems like he eats, sleeps and breathes the sport and I've always been a fan. It is really great seeing his hard work and perseverance pay off. This reminds me of a story I heard about Johnny O running in the L.A. marathon the day after a SX race back in the day. It seems like these guys get their bodies into such a great state of tune that they can just push and push and push.

Another Justin...Brayton has been competing in these MTB races as well. It makes perfect sense to me that these guys do it. Their fitness level is on par with anyone, and these guys clearly have a knack for timing, line selection, momentum, etc etc. Good stuff!

The surprise isn't that he raced the day after a national, the surprise is that the MTB race was in North Carolina and the national was in Washington State (opposite sides of the country).

Between his results, and his dedication to the Make a Wish kid last week, Barcia is definitely winning me over as a fan.

yes for a view months. not sure why they split but justin said it was just painful (physically) to work with him due to alot of cycling, i mean alot alot... now he trains himself and gets some riding coaching from buddy antunez. seems to work just fine.

And people say he wastes too much energy scrubbing jumps...... Dude looks like he went for a Sunday ride after 35 minutes of balls to the wall racing.

Dude is a badass for sure! Would have loved for him to rip some local trails here in washington while he was out here, but flying across country and racing the next day after a race like that is worthy of MANY props!

I'm so happy Barcia is finding his way in the 450 class. I was a huge fan when he was on the 250's and really thought he'd be a force in sx. but than it just did not happen. I thought for a while he was gonna be one of those guys that did great on the small bike and just never found their way on the big bike, but that's all changed. And I'm far from a Yamaha fan but I think it's cool that they are finally getting up there in the mix again too.

one thing to think about is that he showed more speed in sx than mx during his 250 days and now he actually shown enough speed to be able to beat rd5 straight up in the outdoor races. he may just be even faster for next years sx. a title contender for sure, especially with tomac not beeing able to jump on a (new to him) dirt bike befor mid november. let's hope for a good sx season. the last couple years were pretty 'boring ' after a2 or a3 or was it a10...something like that.

he really seems to like his new team, even though i remember matthes saying there were some problems but i think you can't perform good on a level like that if you don't get along with your team.

*70 minutes of balls to the wall racing actually.

Dude is a good human. I'm happy for the sport that there are people on an elite level who LOVE riding dirtbikes
