A number on this forum have purchased high dollar exhausts for the sake of bling (me included). That being said, the only way I know to clean the baked on header grunge is to remove it (header) and scrub with penetrating spray. Does anyone know of a better proven method to keep our bling looking perfect? I spoke with FMF and they didn't have any advise on the topic.

I hit my stainless header with with a torch bright regularly, and it still looks new after 4 years.

Soak it or scrub it in warm or hot antifreeze. The phosphorous in the coolant does an amazing job of breaking down the grunge and your pipe will end up looking brand new, and it will sound better too.

Simple green is based on phosphorous.

EZ Off oven cleaner (the yellow capped heavy duty version) might work well on Stainless or Titanium, but test it in an inconspicuous location and keep it away from aluminum parts. Any Lye based cleaners like EZ-Off will etch and stain aluminum fairly fast.

I've used oven cleaner and acetone in the past, but the best results, and easiest method, that I have found, are achieved by soaking the part in antifreeze, in an old crock pot on low/medium until the grime comes off easily with a Scotch Brite pad. This method definitely brings back the bling with the least amount of effort.

If you have a lot of crap on there, run the bike and get the header hot. Then use a little piece of wood to scrape most of it off.

I've tried a lot of stuff on Pro Circuit stainless head pipes, and this is the best by far: Eagle 1 mag cleaner.
Don't let it get on the engine cases or frame- it will stain them dark.

Use a stainless steel wire brush. (Make sure it's stainless because carbon steel will contaminate and rust) after all the baked on dirt is spray the pipe with wd40 and rub with scotch brite.

I was surprised nobody else mentioned this method so I tried to find where I originally got the idea. I had the same issue as you several years ago and this was the best thing I came across to solve the problem.

Of course you did!

If you want to keep that FMF Megabong flowing well you gotta keep the grunge out. Formula 420 or rock salt and iso alcohol will do the trick.

In all seriousness, I would smoke the shit out of a FMF megabong. You listening Elmers?
