Ugh, shitty day...dislocated hip and pretty big piece of the pelvice bone broke off. 1st surgery they put hip back in a put a pin in my femur for traction. 2nd surgery scheduled for monday to pin the broken piece.
I was lucky, could have been way worse!
I was 8 laps into my day at Milestone and hit a slick spot on a landing, in 4th. Gnarly high side and just bounced of the ground.
I'll be alright in a few weeks, just have to endure the temporary bullshit.
Thanks Guys!

Was the dislocation posterior or anterior ? Mine was posterior and my femur head was up in my right butt cheek. I was able to feel the head poking through the muscle. It was the knarliest pain I have ever felt. I was in a walker for two weeks, crutches for 2 months and a cane for another two months. I endoed and got caught up in the bike. Bruised my heart and lung from my helmet compressing against my chest when I hit the ground and broke my collar bone. The amount of blood I was spitting up I thought I was going to die.
Take it easy dude and get well.

Hello again,
The injury was on Oct 5th, 2nd surgery was Oct 7th, they added 11 screws and 2 plates to my pelvis. I had a bonus rod placed in my femur for traction for a few days. 5 days in the hospital and they set me free...
Since then, I have been able to put all of my effort into my rehab and i'm super happy to say this injury was not the end of me!
I had 10 weeks of non weight bearing (crutches), but was able to work a lot of range back into the joint. I started cycling right at 10 weeks. I'm at week 16 now and i'm probably flirting with 90% recovered, with a slight limp still. I have over 500 miles logged from mountain and road bikes. My lungs are back, my muscle is back and i'm just working on the little movements in the joint.

The biggest discomfort from this has been the fact that they cut all of my butt muscle to get to the pelvis, it's been a real pain in the ass! My scar is pretty gnarly but it will just add to my list in the end.

Like Nornevrder said above, when the femur was pushing out of the back of my ass, it was the most painful thing i've ever experienced, but what else would you expect.
I will ride a dirt bike again, just not sure when, i'm in no rush!

Till then, pedal hard, pedal fast and be happy I didn't get broken off worse.

Austin, really good to hear that your recovery is going well! I do miss seeing you rock some old hellion lids in mxa's Monday roundup though. Hope you do ride again, and that you don't revisit this kind of pain ever again. Good luck, Lee

Glad you're doing well. I cringe thinking about my femur poking out the back of my ass.

Glad to here recovery is going good. They told me that I was prone to more dislocations. Fortunately I have been good now for 10 years. What was screwed up for me was the doctor said you should have just broke your femur because it would be a lot easier to fix with a faster recovery time.

Austin's been pushing the limits of human recovery.... One week out of surgery he was already hitting the gym. Here's a pic from the A1 road ride... leading the likes of Nicky Hayden and Cal Crutchlow.
