When I landed at ATL on Friday-night...

I was thinking the weather forecast for the region was going to throw attendance off.

We were talking about it in the race thread. It was shocking to see the entire upper deck empty, as I thought Atlanta always sells out.

That place was a freakin mess to get around in. I don't think it was that empty with the exception of the top level on both endzone areas.

I've been going for over 20 years and last night may have been the lowest I've seen. I'm sure the back to back rounds and the crappy weather played a part.

I know it's nice for the riders and Atlanta mormally does good attendance but it bums me out that field didn't try to introduce another city.

First time I have seen this low of attendance. I suspect next week will be different, a lot of people around here have said they are choosing to go to ATL2 for whatever the reason..

I know I could only afford to go to one of them. Those who did not show up missed a great race last night.

I don't feel the weather played that big a role because more often then not, the weather is shit in Atlanta during this race. Seems like it has rained more times then it hasn't for the many years I have attended.

One good thing about it, I made it out of Atlanta in record time!

It was the ice storm ,Chattanooga north had covered roads from the early morning ice and freezing rain.

Next week the NASCAR tour is in town.

Weather? That place is still inside isn't it?

I checked the weather almanac to see what the big deal was. Laughing

If you have ever wintered in ATL, you don't venture out when there is ice in the forcast. Its bad enough on a regular day.

Weather did play a role. I came from Soddy Daisy (Chattanooga area) and roads were bad until we got 60 miles north of Atlanta. Rides to and from were pretty hairy.

First of all I think they should've had a race in a different city rather than 2 in ATL. If that was not possible then they should've had one as the first round of the East and the other as the penultimate round. That way people could go to the first one have a couple of months to save up enough money to go to the second one. Not many can afford yo go 2 weeks in a row

I still recall filling a water buffalo at an M60 Range while in boot camp at Fort Benning, some water spilled over, hit my jacket and froze instantly, never falling to the ground. Shock to say the least from a Southern California Desert boy. Benning is about a hour from Atlanta, so yeah, as I learned while stationed there, not many like to go out when it is an Ice storm.

It was about half full. The pits however were as packed as always and the atmosphere did not suffer at all. The construction of the new stadium right next door made parking and getting into the stadium a bugger. Maybe the forecast of snow earlier in the week kept people away but as it turned out it was above freezing on Sat and the weather was no issue at all. Their loss! Awesome night thats for sure.

Nascar is in town next weekend?? Thats a worry.

According to this link there were 51,023 people. Still more than most rounds. It didn't seem that high though.

I think a lot of scalpers tickets were not used. Sections shown as sold out on the ticketmaster website had many gaps at the stadium. I couldn't sell my 2 spares. We enjoyed the extra space either side of us though lol.

I'm not sure where I heard it but I thought they said they would be happy if they could get 100,000+ attendance out of the two combined events.

I would have liked it better if they would have run Daytona in between the two Atlanta rounds.
