Just listened to the latest Pulp show and noted DV saying:

"i believe GP riders are fitter"

"Cairoli is fitter than any competition Ryan has had in his career".

Average fitness is probably higher in the GPs. But I doubt many are as fit as Dungey and Roczen. They looks to be on a level of their own. And on the other hand, there's more riders in AMA than the GPs. The riders you see in the GPs are full time riders where AMA has a lot of privateers. I think it's almost impossible for a privateer to keep the highest level of fitness with all of the other stuff that are required for them to make a season work.

Dungey has been RV's comp for years... DV clearly thinks Cairoli is fitter! Smile

Why on earth would anyone enter into a debate, the result of which could never be known? What's the point?

I think Cristiano Ronaldo is in decent shape too. Doubt he would hang onto RV for long though. Fitness isn't everything, you need to twist the throttle and disconnect the brain too.

That's a slap in the face to dungey. I'd put his fitness up against any mx rider on the planet.

Fitness for SX and fitness for MX are two different things, and the US based riders have to adapt training to for the transition so it's a bit comparing apples to oranges. If any of those guys got on a SX track and tried to keep their hearts pegged for 15 minutes at a competitive pace in a main, they'd be pretty gassed without building their training around the specific discipline.

But, as to the outdoors, simply by virtue of the openness and 40 man gate in the US and the exclusiveness of the 450 gp class, it would shock me at all if the "average" level of fitness is higher at a GP gate. That said, I'd expect among the top guys their injury status is more what distinguishes them than their training commitment.

It's conceivable the GP regulars get more rest time in the off season (not talking about races, but the intensity of preSX training/testing after the outdoors finish).

I think the fitness levels of the top guys on both sides of the pond are pretty equal. But I think they train differently. As far as Cairoli being fitter than Dungey is concerned, I don't know about that, I do think that he'll be tougher competition though

Hey did you and your daughter have a nice time at the Dallas SX? What a magnificent day that was weather wise. My girlfriend went with me and is still there taking care of her mom. Brenda got to experience all your wild weather there.

FTE-Someone did an analysis that showed the GP pack was closer lap time wise than our National packs. I don't believe however anyone has studied beginning of the race lap times compared to end of race to see who has the tongue in the spokes the most a the end of GP or National MX moto.

US Riders have more supercross races than they have outdoor nationals. would it be very wrong to say, that comparing a supercross rider to an outdoor rider is a bit like a comparing a 5000meter specialist to a marathon runner ?

gp riders get to work on their outdoor riding all year long, for whatever that is worth..

Haha, you were in Arlington? You should have hit me up, I probably owe you a beer or ten after all of the ribbing I give you here Laughing

The weather here sucks now. I haven't seen the sun in weeks, and we're getting hit with ice again tonight. I would never make it in Seattle.

No worries GrapeApe. I learned the hard way the best way to "win" sometimes is by not playing so I do my best to let most stuff roll off my back.

The only other time I was at Arlington was 2012 and it was a rain fest so I really appreciated the nice weather. The Blue Buffalo pits were over in Yamaha row kitty corner from JGR. I will be at Vegas and first 2 Nationals if you'll be at any of those or the MEC.

No I don't believe they are, but they do have a smoother riding style and would therefore "appear" more fit at the end of a long moto

How the fuck could this ever be measured?

You can barely get it out of riders when they've got a sprained wrist, let alone find out VO2 max, vertical jump, what they lift, how much they poop and eat...

Maybe they should all do Dungey's charity bike ride so we can find out and not have a circle jerk thread.

Yea, that's why Roczen and Moosecan both came here and struggled with fitness their first year.

And Raviolli is in much better shape then all the US riders, that's he gassed out of the MXoNs in Denver.
