Picked up some really nice stuff this weekend as part of a package deal and it needs to find a new home. Pristine 1976 AW250 built with loads of new parts that he ended up with probably 13 plus grand in and a 1980 250 in the midst of a resto. The 80 model 250 had a shifting problem with second or third and he decided to have a complete 400 engine built from scratch with mostly nos parts , Motoplat electronic ignition and a new Bing carb. Never started. Frame has been blasted and painted, big pegs fitted, two tanks painted, Works Perf. shocks, new Maico Only pipe and silencer, new plastics, graphics , seat covers, new Thor aluminum swing arm and lots of misc. small parts.

I can fix the clutch problem in 20 minutes!

Just need to know what & where to polish.

Joe,

List them on the Yahoo Maico group & AHRMA site.

You could also list the on marks Vintage site.

I'd love to have the 76, But I still have to build my project 83 Maico 490!

BTW: What Gun did you get?

Uh-oh, did someone say Maico? For sale? I know alot of people who don't like the 80 Maico, but I'm not one of them...and it's a big bore to boot? Had an 80 440, and loved the way that bike handled. Still, I prefer the 400's though. Newman, if you weren't so far away, I'd pull the trigger on it. Got three Maico 400's and one 360 in the stall --.one more 400 sure wouldn't hurt none.

I had a 79 440 that was pretty awesome for it's time. I had Fox air shocks and a Wheelsmith pipe along with the cross 4 laced wheels. EC Birt polished and blueprinted my cylinder for me and that thing was a holeshot machine. As a matter of fact, EC was the one that got the bike for me. He had a buddy at Maico in Suffork Va and gave him a call and I went to the warehouse and picked it up with my Dodge Colt pulling a trailer LOL.

Damnit, Newmann...I was pretty much forgetting about any more vintage stuff until now! Pinch

Gorgeous bike. Never had a Maico, always thought they were beautiful...and the AW stuff is classic.

I was 14yrs old when I hopped on my buddies 83' 250 sand spider and then 1yr later I rode a 490 sand spider. I was maybe 120lbs and those bikes didn't even know I was sitting on them. I liked the 250 , but the 490 scared the hell out of me. I couldn't understand how someone could ride one of those things fast around the track without killing themselves. Way back then , I felt like a factory rider on those things.

Good score on the Maico's Newmann!
