15 or so years ago they had a series in stadiums across America, pretty sure

Jimmy Holley was a champ at one time or another....(?) Think many events were televised

- possibly on the USA Network (?)

Anyway, just wondering if any of you ever attended, competed or had any recollections

of these bizarre competitions ? Pretty sure it was an all-out dirt show, with truck-classes,

buggies, quads and bikes all competing on a reconfigured stadium floor...

I do recall some wicked high-speed jumps for the bikes....

Wasn't Larry Brooks the one to beat in that series as well? Part of the Mickey Thompson group.

Michael Craig as well. Remember how the top guys started last. Some really good bar to bar action at those races. (There's a reason of mentioning that :-)

Jumps were tiny. Made for truck racing. Very fast tracks

Mickey Thompson Ultra Cross.
I tried to qualify for the Seattle one in 89&90.

In 89 Eric Hall had the fastest qually time in Seattle on a stock 89 RM125, then on the first lap of the main he went over his bars and wrecked his knee and it ended his racing career.

The Voland brothers & Manley raced alot of them also.

I went to one at Anaheim as a kid, can't remember who won, but the next day I had streamers tape to my chest protector when I went riding in the backyard!

Those were pretty cool. I believe they ran the track backwards than the cars/trucks. I've got some old tapes of McGrath, Tallon Vohland, and Ryno racing those things in 1990.

I have a clip that shows Jimmie Johnson (the NASCAR driver) career that has a little of the 4 wheel action, but no bikes. Did you know that Ralph Sheheen announced it way back then?

I know just the one you are talking about, they were jumping over the tuff block/barrier.

LOL. Were you points leader or fastest qualifier? I forget who earned the streamer. Good times!

Oh yea watching Holley and those guys were great when I was a kid. The red, white and blue water barriers and fast single to flatland jumps. Had to be good at flat rutless corners too.

I went to one round, of the ultracross series, at candlestick park , in SF, CA. in 1990
also it was the Western Sizzlin/Noleen/Yamaha team Larry Brooks, L .Ward. and M.Craig. they did have a different track configuration, as so the trucks, bikes, quads and buggys could all race it.

Some UltraCross action featuring (to the delight of some of you) a Larry Brooks yard sale crash!
Wow! LB went down pretty hard. He showed alot of heart pushing his bike across the finish line after a crash like that. Did he get penalized for the guy helping him?

I raced a few of them, they were pretty fun. Remember the dash for cash.

Anaheim, forgot what year, I remember Mike Healy just whipping it over the triple jump while in 10th place or something. He would come around the corner, head for the triple, and the crowd would go NUTZ! He didn't win the race but he sure was a favorite. He was the only rider to jump the triple.

I went one year to an Anaheim event, The bikes rode the track opposite of the trucks
The Vohland brothers and Holley were the action that night.
The track was very fast for bikes as it was a primarily an offroad truck event.
