Anybody ride and sign up for Affordable Care Act?

Edited Date/Time 10/28/2014 3:54pm
Someone contacted me looking for riders and racers that signed up for ACA to profile in videos, preferably younger. They want to know the experiences of active young people that signed up for ACA and do sports.

(it would be great if people didn’t use this thread to blow off their Obama hatred- we get it, we’ve heard it all before,

etc.) you can email me at jason_leeford at hotmail.

I would be very careful about any public info I shared about my Health Insurance coverage and any extreme activities I participated in.

They look for ways not to cover people and that is on any Insurance not just AHCA .

Exactly...then when you call upon the insurance company to pay a claim, they could deny based upon your chosen activities...

I haven't seen anyone in my office who has the ACA insurance covered by it yet, everyone has really high deductibles.

Was it a Government approved bicycle? Were you wearing Government approved helmet, goggles, pads and clothing? Were you riding in a Government approved area? Were you following all Government approved techniques, including velocity? Were you being completely obedient to your Government masters? If so, you may qualify for free treatment.

Doesn't "Heil, mein Führer" mean "Hail, my leader"? Seems appropriate.

Well, your probably right on most accounts, but they do offer policies that are better than any I have been offered at work but are expensive. I doubt anyone that qualifies for assistance with the ACA is going to be paying $1000 or more a month for a policy. That same policy could cost someone that makes enough money to not get assistance over $2000+.

Again, Im curious if anyone has taken the time to really look at the policies that are offered? They are different state to state and like the Dr. already said in this thread, some are complete trash and will offer no real coverage if you don't understand what you bought.

I know your just joking with all the Govt. references, but the Govt. pretty much steps out after they decide how much they are gong to help with the cost. From there on out its just you and an insurance company. United Healthcare, Blue Cross Blue Shield ect. Those are the guys making out big time on this whole deal. I wish the industry I work in had the government mandate that I bought our product and forced millions of new customers in the door.

I know how it works (not the absolute specifics, only those that wrote it fully understand how "it works").
It's wrong; hence my reference to a well known German socialist phrase.

What are your particular issues with the ACA, Matt?

Your analysis that it's "wrong," and therefore Obama is Hitler, is a little weak.

As someone above said, it is all insurance. In my case, it costs way more for the same coverage than it did before they started messing with it but some has to pay for all of the new free people. After talking to my insurance guy, I would urge anyone who did sign up to really look over their policy. Just because you have Obamacare doesn't mean that they cover you if you ride or race....especially race. I have had good service through Brandon at ridesurance.com.

Not true. Some of the ACA plans are actually pretty good and more affordable than what you would be able to purchase on your own. I have a friend who was self employed and his group plan was far more expensive and much higher deductible than his ACA plan.

Second that. Ever try being self employed, and finding health care with a previous condition. I did and it was almost impossible, VERY expensive, and the "prior condition" rider left me at the mercy of their decision making. Just because I had (prior) A-Fib issue, they wouldn't cover anything they felt they could relate to it.

May not be right for everyone, but can definitely help out some.

Let me give you an example of what I was talking about and tell me if you think I misunderstood the last sentence. My buddy was paying $1500 per month for him, his wife and kids under their group plan. That was with a $10K INDIVIDUAL deductible. Under ACA he is paying $450 per month with a $1000 FAMILY deductible. Huge difference. While under the old plan his daughter broke her arm. They were given a discount because they had insurance, but insurance did not cover it because they obviously didn't meet the individual deductible. However, I know the OP didn't want to start an ACA debate. Just saying I wouldn't announce publicly what insurance I carry and that I am involved in this sport, for what I feel are obvious reasons.

I was at $2600+/month for myself and my wife...a really, really nice plan...EVERYTHING covered...$8K combined deductible...and the deductible was only on the few things not covered.

Did I say, "$2600"? Oh, it was on the way to $3K!

I signed us up for ACA just like my employees were doin'...$577 month, Platinum Plan...less deduct and it seems to be working fine...so far...

The caveat will be watching to see what happens in the next pricing cycle...or two.

I believe that every person need to purchase a health care plan to make their life become much more easier and better. However, there are still people who are still confused about the benefits they will get. Apparently, a network of health care exchanges, websites that essentially serve as online market places for health insurance produced under the Affordable Care act, is intended to be online by fall of 2013. The states are intended to create them, but those that don't will get a federal one forced on them.
