If you have to do something crazy, use the 2009 swingarm. I would imagine it to be amazing with the older, steel frame. You'd get some of the weight loss, too, if you use the 2009 rear wheel. The 09 hub is much smaller, and lighter.

I cant imagine why Yamaha did nto do this to the 2015 yz, other thna maybe no money was availabel to" test it" the way they do. Its abetter arm, for sure, and I dont think any rider woudl like it.

2009 swingarm? Off of the 2009 YZ250 or the 2009 YZ450F? Don't know if it would bolt up, or the shock linkage would work?

Bringing this back from the dead. After sitting on it for almost 2 years I'm finally working on my 03 YZ250. Last night in a fit of why the hell not I bought a 12 450F swingarm off Ebay. From what I've been able to figure out with the steel frame you can use the at least the stock dogbone if not complete linkage with the new swingarm whereas the aluminum frame needs at least some of the new parts. The stock linkage will lower the rear slightly but keep close to the same leverage ratios, I'm building it for a mostly off road bike so that's not really a bad thing, however it seems like maybe I might have some tire rub issues. Anyone done it on a steel frame, of have any additional knowledge. Most of the threads I could find ended 2 or 3 years ago.

I'd do SSS but keep the steel frame...
X2. Best frame ever. McGrath, Henry, Reed, Dowd, Bradshaw, Button, all won with steel frame. Only became better with more input, and Engineers listening to reports. Implementing small changes. Cool

Matthes noted on the last #300 pulpcast that they were stretching the YZ steel frames quite a bit, was that a noticeable problem for high/time or severe-use bikes?
