Its a cool race but totally not worth what happened to JA.

No money... no championship... the risk is too high

my 2 cents. and I am sure I will get flamed...

I totally disagree with you, what happened could have been easily avoided and is capable of happening at any race...just my 2 cents

It could have been easily avoided by Anderson jumping the jump then getting out the way!

It's not.

They don't do it because they race too much already and for the USA, anything less than a win is being nailed to the cross.

Not at all, this raced show grit, patriotism, and determination, exactly what true fans and team managers want. I'd hire any of the Team USA riders in a second.

The american riders will stand in a row for being in the team @ mxon glen helen next year...whatch what happens
9/25/2016 9:21am
I can't speak for the riders but I can only speculate that Anderson wouldn't regret going, however I think it's the biggest and most enjoyable race of the year.

Yes it could have been easily avoided.

But the OP's point is that these men don't make any money racing this event, but take all the career-ending risk that comes with racing in it.

Sort of like Herlings breaking his leg on a mini bike last year and losing the championship.
9/25/2016 9:30am
An accident could happen any time you throw a leg over the bike, its part of the sport. A lot of the American fans seem ready to 'throw their guys under the bus' for anything less than a win, I would say that has just as much to do with the decision not to participate.

Don't know about you but I find it one of the most exciting meetings of the year, even if Team GB has slim chance of standing on top of the podium at the moment.

I hope I can put in to words properly to state how I feel.

6 days a week in Regiment, up earlier then anyone, training, all day. One of those days we will play a sport, usually football, soccer or basketball. The other days, PT first thing, then Tactical maneuvers, force marches, more maneuvers. Through rifle training. It is tiring, and there was not a season for it.

I wish I could have called of a deployment, I trained so hard, I just do not feel like going to Iraq for months to fight, I need a break.

Instead, take that training, that thing that made my buddies and me good at our jobs and put them to use.

These great motorcycle racers have had great opportunity, all of them from every country, but I am speaking about the Americans this time. They had great opportunity, some to home school, so they could ride and train during the day. Sponsors at an early age to help with racing through the early years. Finally make decent money racing professionally. Something they may not have had growing up somewhere else, at least not at the level they have it now.

They have fans that pay alot of money to see them race. Fans that work their ass off, ride in their spare time and live vicariously through the pro races.

I wonder if the sense of pride the US team used to feel is gone for many of the riders. Yes you raced supercross, and then the outdoors. Now, just a few weeks at the end of the outdoors just one more race, for the Country, for the population that supported you the whole year and will continue to support you. If that pride for racing for the name on the front of the jersey returns, and overtakes the pride of racing for the name on the back, then we will see less riders wanting to stay home.

This has to be worthy of a major award of one of the dumbest posts on Vital, ever. I would agree if it were just a European SX for fun, but this is the fucking Olympics of MX... Might as well just have all of the riders toss their pride and spine out, other than money, what the hell do they ride for?

Unbelievable.

Because of that crowd the riders need to get paid.

Say 30,000 fans maybe 35,000.
30,000x €80= €2,400,000. There's money to go around.

70 years is enough, right? No money in it. Let's drop this meaningless race. My heart rate still isn't back to resting rate yet but I'm probably the only one.

You're a smart fucker! But on the other hand, their is no other race on the planet where their are watching so many motocross-fans at once. That makes this race very interesting for sponsors if you ask me. OK Supercross is also big but a part of those people will never swing their leg over a bike, and will also never buy a Funnelweb Filter, Twinair Filter, Mika Handlebar, or something similar. So for MX-Sponsors this MXDN is very interesting. For outsider sponsorships like Monster, Rockstar and other sugar drinks Supercross is interesting because also non-mx-riders can drink that.

Well the rider should get together and demand to get paid, simple.

Personally I love that they do it for pride rather than money. Gives it a special feeling. What sucks is that it probably goes straight into Luongos pockets

just finished watching, gutted for anderson, not a webb fan but I was cheering for him and I'm gutted for him as well. I'm sure he's pissed he tipped over that hill and gave it away, but the idiot landing on anderson really jacked it up for the USA, not webb. I'm sure it's hard for any rider to choose not to go, at the same time it's a calculated decision to go and show pride for your country. Congrats to all of team USA!!! Congrats to France and the Netherlands as well!

Really? It is bad that JA got hurt BUT feck me the racing was great to watch (even though GB not in it), the noise of the crowd. Love race 3 when things start to get close - nothing can beat that excitement!!!

Agree somewhat on the money but what is the answer???

It's for pride. Our top guys lost interest right around the time U.S.A. started losing.

Wonder if there will be any hesitation from the US riders to get involved with their home MXDN

They do it to prove who is the baddest, and because we fans expect it. I think that's why?

If we did that with our B or C team whatever you want to call it, in their backyard, what does that say about everyone else? Everyone's bagging on us, there's a thread saying we won't poduim, 99% chance we woulda won if not for an idiot landing on Anderson. I think this race showed a lot about what Americans are made of.

If JA didn't get dive bombed by the lapper, he would have finished 1st or 2nd in the 3rd moto. Then the USA would have won the event.
