From RacerX:

Here is an update on Mike Alessi after his crash in practice at the opening round of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro Motocross Championship at Hangtown.

From RedBull KTM:

Approximately six minutes into the second timed practice session, Alessi suffered a horrendous crash. The KTM rider knocked himself out during the crash and the practice was red flagged for his safety. After some time with the medics Alessi was able to get back on his feet and reported to the Asterisk Medical Unit for further evaluation. Alessi was soon driven to a local area hospital where they evaluated his concussion. He is expected to make a full recovery and return to racing in approximately 3-4 weeks.

“I felt so good this morning and was very confident in my speed and my bike. I thought today would be my day but unfortunately I suffered a crash and I am lucky I was not seriously hurt. I will rest next week and hope to be back by High Point,” remarked Alessi.

I consider this to be good news.

I say that because it shows that he knows and understands how serious head injuries are. Obviously, I wish he were out there showing everybody the fast way around the track this coming weekend, but that'll have to wait a few weeks.

I am very glad that concussions are being taken seriously these days. You're overall health and well being are much more important then a #1 plate that will be dusty on a mantel in a few years

Crap... I hope it's not a bleeding. Sad We just have a limited amount of these impacts before serious damage, and the first one could be enough or even lethal...

Whether you like him or not (I don't) you have to admit that karma has gotten back at him and then some for Glen Helen 05. Red Bud 08 was one of the worst I've ever seen. He even got landed on at Glen Helen 05 after the incident with Tedesco. Now this, ending yet another championship run that he'd have been in for sure. I can definitely see a 5 way battle when he and Canard get back. Possibly 6 if Pourcel picks it up and rides how we all know he can.

Looks like he was trying to do a bubba scrub, but it ended up as a bubba flub. Hope he recovers fast but I thought it takes longer than a few weeks for the brain to recover from a concussion.

I think in 07 at Unadilla Stewart crashed in practice and missed the race with a concussion, then won the overall with a 4-2 score the next week in Lakewood. They may have had a week break though.

Happy to hear he was ok that looked shitty!
Interesting statement from a man with a giant can of beans for a feed bag and a megaphone sticking out of his azz. Kinda brings new meaning to the phrase "Gas it!" :-)

Don't count out Metty and Weimer either in that bunch. When we get everyone healthy (for the most part), their fitness where it needs to be, settings worked out, and rhythm of the series going, this is going to be a DOGFIGHT every week. This is the deepest field (or will be once everyone is back) ever.
