ATL Quad Jump = Insane

Edited Date/Time 1/27/2012 5:50pm
Brent Stallo, David Izer, and myself headed to downtown Atlanta this morning for press day at the Georgia Dome with the JGR Yamaha guys. While we have video and quotes coming here in a bit, the craziest thing of the entire morning was watching Justin Brayton bust out the Quad jump that we've all seen in the track diagrams...WOW.

Video coming soon.

That will be enjoyable to see. Good way to reward riders willing to do it. I assume it will be quite a bit faster than tripling?

Aint so bad! not like the triples and quads of the 80's 90's with the sharp peak if you didn't clear those it was pretty much the end of your day!.

While the track is still under construction, it already looks to host more passing lanes than were seen in Indy last weekend.

This is good news!

I think it's cool and will be fun to watch, I also think it's going to be one of those things that helps reduce the number of racers before the night is over. Meat grinder if you get what I'm sayin

Nothing beats ATL terrafirma.

The quad looks forgiving, quad or triple, no problems.

I am guessing it is about 85 feet, a triple is like 65 or so usually and it looks about 20 more feet or so.

That track looks so much better than Indy, that dirt is awesome!

Yup the triple is 67 Feet and those Tuff blocks look about 4 ft each so that 85 is a decent guess. I'm thinking 82 ft

Not true. I was there and saw Dungey hit it as well a couple times. So did Barcia and Canard. In the 450s Reed and Short did it as well as well as Josh Grant. None of the guys did it every lap because the landing was F'ed up and it would make you blow the turn if you didnt hit it right. Reed and Pourcel were the guys hittin it more consistantly than the others though.

I personally think they're taking it too far. Just cause it can be done doesn't mean they have to make it. Where will the progression end. 220 ft step up triples? Do we have to force these kids to huck 100ft quads simply for are entertainment? And if you don't think they're being forced to do it you're wrong. These kids want to win and if the guy in front of them is doing it they're going to have to . Don't get me wrong it's fun to watch but I just think they're getting a little out of hand. JMO though.

Triples used to be bigger in the 80's than the standard triples now. They actually toned SX tracks down in the 90's 2000's I believe it was.

All I can say is Brayton hit it absolutely wide open on the 450 from the corner. The most I've ever heard a 450 rev while hitting a jump. It's massive.

I honestly don't think a 250f will do it. Les Smith said the same.

Jumps are stoopid. Its a shame that stadium racing is basically a jump-fest with bowl turns at the ends.

if tuff blocks are 8 feet long. right click view and scale the tuff block to the guys standing there and the length of that bike. I think bikes are about 7' long. 6x 12 is 72'. Round it up to 75-80 tops.

not necessarily. If you remember the 125 race in 2000 at anahiem danny smith was doing that huge quad every lap he had it open and greg schnell i believe still beat him straight up. I could see the lites guys, or maybe even some of the 450 guys going far inside and double- doubling. Since everyone is so good at "bubba scrubbin" now a days lol.
