How come no one has been assigned # 8 or #9 ? Does Tedesco have #9 tied up ? I can't remember when we had a # 8, who was the last guy to run #8 ? Langston ? Albertyn ? Guy Cooper ? Marty tripes ? Laughing

I was checking 2017 #'s for curiosity and noticed no one has # 8 or 9. Who was the last # 8 ?

Langston was the last number 8. Canard, Wilson, and Reed are the only ones without a single digit number that can take it if they want to I believe.

Maybe no one new is eligible for a single digit. Need a National championship, right? Regional Supercross won't do.

You are not assigned they are earned.... therefore until a new National level champion is crowned and he requests one they are then vacant.

Im pretty sure this has been covered a couple hundred million times and certainly not a secret... albeit a stupid rule!

What does Stewart need to do to keep his number? I know it's a certain amount of points needed but I don't see him making that happen anytime soon.

I heard Webb is gonna take them both after he wins the outdoor title. He's keeping the two as well.

What if Reed decided he wanted #8? Could he take it since he has past SX/MX titles? Or would he have to have chosen it after he won the titles? So do you have a time limit to choose?

So the guy that finishes 2nd in points in the 450 class isn't eligible for a single digit number thats available the next year? What kind of crap is that?

Single digits, and/or career numbers are reserved for champions. That rewards them to be able to establish a "brand"(marketing), with a number, over a longer period of time vs. changing every year. Thats just a generalization and Im just a messenger.

"Marketing" And trying to make it easy to identify riders for the "Average fan" F-ed up the most perfect numbering system in any sport. Brutally honest and unique to moto. First gets # 1, 2nd gets # 2, ....Oh never mind the common sense train left the station years ago Laughing

Yep, 8 & 9 won't be assigned. Someone has to earn them by winning a title.

Correct. I was meaning to say champions can select a one digit but can also pick a two digit number. I worded it wrong.
