Didnt the 74 have a silver tank? Check out how clean this resto is:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-XR-/301814411753?forcerrptr=true&hash=item46458a71e9:g:moUAAOSw8-tWXypV&item=301814411753

but it has a red tank, thought 74's had silver:

Newmann to the white courtesy phone...

OC , My 74 was silver and I've been trying to get it back for years. It was my 2nd bike and the one I got started racing on. That is Saweet.

Twist the grip off of it! Slinging parts and service at Marine World.

Chassis number is correct for a 1974 model. 1973 starts with 10xxxxx, 1974 is 11xxxx, 1975 is 13xxxx....

You get the picture.

Here is my all original, down to the tires and grips, 1973 XR75. I have a Bassani on it for the awesome sound these little engines make!

73&74 were silver. 75&76 were red tanks silver plastic. I wouldn't worry too much about the paint scheme, not much else on it is original. Bad ass little mini.

74 was the gunmetal grey, 75 was red tank and silver fenders. People paint things....

I helped a friend do this one that he donated to the David Bailey benefit auction back around 2010. Several people and companies donated parts and services to make this thing sweet. Auctioned for a good cause for $9600.00!

Yep, little red fenders in 76, bigger in 77-78

Not much of an XR nut myself other than a hoarder of aftermarket frames for them. DG, PK, Red Line and C&J...retirement projects!

Newmann, the more I know about you and your amazing collection, the more I want to be in your will lol. We're roughly the same age though, so even if you kicked I'd probably only get to enjoy your stuff for a year or two anyway.

I had a '74 and it had a silver tank. It was used at the time I got it though, so no guarantee that it was original.

My junk is so disorganized that you would require a tetanus shot to dig through it. Trying to clean up a bit of the mess I have created. At least most of it has been moved to one location. And my collection of junk pales in comparison to a whole lot of people I know.

Not only were the fenders bigger in 1977, the chassis and engine was new and now a 5-speed. That engine is basically the same as today in a new CRF80 (updated with a CDI in place of points in the late 80's).

How about sending a PK frame my way if you have any spares. Maybe we can make a deal on a Elsinore DG arm?
