You dont even have to be a 2 stroke lover to enjoy this one, check out this story, and then the vid, GOOD TIMES!!
We set out to race Round 1 of the Florida Gold Cup Series at Gatorback Cycle Park in Gainesville, FL on a 1994 CR500 in the +25 class. Ian bought the bike 2 weeks before off of craigslist, and got to ride the bike a total of 10 minutes before the big day. This is how the racing unfolded.
Pretty cool video! Even with the suspension untouched, did a good job. Put some fresh suspensions and white number plates and that thing would be a nice and cheap "contender"! :-)

my AF was a 94, I rode it stock for about 4 sundays (offroad) to make sure it was mechanically sound and I can tell you the stock suspension is very soft. I will say it handled a lot better stock than I thought it would. the vibration at idle is a little noticable but once you get going it's not bad.
before pic in the miami back yard where I found it. when I put it on my stand on the guys patio to start it an army of ants started carrying their eggs out of the airbox and down the frame, it was hilarious.
1. I could never ride with an idle. 500s must make what, 5 or 10hp at idle? You don't need that thing riding itself.
2. Bike sounds too lean.
3. He needs to ride the higher gears a bit more. Use that mid-range.
I did a race myself a few weeks ago on my CR500 against modern bikes. Lots of fun. Won 2 motos then went out on a 1980 twin-shock RM500 and beat them all on that too.

It would be pretty cool if they did an update vid after setting the bike up and getting it all dialed. I loved the whole story about grabbing a bike straight off CL and taking it out to race it, as sketchy as it was at times lol

after. I'll be on this sunday at croom.
Bike looks good Yota. Looks like you are using a 02-04 CRF 450 frame? Did you cut the "Y" out and shorten the downtube technique or the whole new cradle and "Y"? Anywho the bike looks great, did you go thru the motor at all and rebuild it? Will be interested in hearing how the first ride reports are on it.

03 CR125 frame. The Y was replaced with a bilet pc and new frame cradle tubing installed. I didn't do the fabrication work, I just put the bike together from the frame up. As for the engine I kept it the way I found it for about a year and then had it resleeved to stock bore. There was already some porting done, one of my friends who is a CR500 freak thinks it was an Eric Gorr port job judging by the epoxy work in the transfer tunnels. Rad Valve, air striker carb, 07 CR125 airbox boot, vented airbox, PC pipe and silencer. Been riding it since 09

I think most of you have seen this video already, but here is my brother last year trying to get points in World Championships on CR 500. In both videos you can clearly see how different is the flying path of the CR500 compared to modern four strokes.
Hey MBR, where abouts are you in Finland? I planned on going to Tampere to visit some relatives when I am in Germany during November/ December. Trying to meet up with as many Vitards from Europe as possible in my travels. Lol
Your brother looks dope as hell on that old school steel frmae CR!

Where did you get your billet "Y" from? It wasn't that dude who screwed everyone over on BannedCr500riders.com was it? I was curious because I was looking to do some of my own and wondered where you got your parts from.
I plan on heading down to Florida this winter to hit some of the winter AM vet stuff with my buddy who is a poster here on vital as well. Maybe I will run into you.

yes it was that dude. I was lucky and had some help getting my frame out of his clutches. there are some nice billet Y's for sale on ebay. There is one for the gen3 125 chassis mod, 1 for the 4 stroke chassis mod and the guy is working on one for the gen3 250 chassis mod. the guy on ebay is not the guy who screwed people over.
I have alot of fun on mine. The first thing I did when I bought it was had stiffer springs put in front and rear. I guess they didn't have the fork springs for the 94 CR500 anymore so Race Tech had to make some custom springs for it. Suspension isn't half bad now.

I'm from near Helsinki. There is Supercross (more like arenacross) race in Tampere 10th & 11th of November, so if you are around then you should check it out. I have previously build tracks and helped with getting US guys (Peick, Paluzzi, Thomas, Boni, Plouffe etc.) to Lahti Supercross. I'm not arranging Tampere race but I'm planning to be there anyways.

Ok cool . I will have to look you up when you are there. Maybe I can buy some of that sweet Yoko gear off you! Lol. Will you be at any SX's in Germany or Stuttgart?

No Germany, but we will be at MEC. If you come to Tampere I definitely can you hook up with good deal on Yoko gear through my brother.
far exceeded my expectations as far as build quality. the power is amazing and I would probably kill myself if I was doing moto. offroad here in central florida the sand is pretty forgiving of the power and I've only busted my ass a few times. I rode it most sundays from jan 09 until I got my 12 250sx but the KTM has my attention right now. the 500 will def wear you out though. my best friend has his 250f up for sale and doesn't want to get it dirty so this sunday I'm going to let him ride the KTM and I'll take the 500 out. should be fun.
