It goes without saying that 2016 did not go well whatsoever for Stew. It honestly went about as bad as could go. Now he did have some great things in his personal life. He and his family were blessed with a healthy baby boy and Seven seemed to prosper but from a racing point of view It was pretty much a disaster. If we assume that he no longer will be with Yosh, as they are rumored to be a 250 only team next year, then where could he end up? I think he will either get support from someone and run under his Seven brand (possibly still on a Suzuki or maybe Honda) or get a contract based on results.

Options look slim to none on paper.

Monster Energy Kawasaki-zero chance
Joe Gibbs or Factory Yamaha-zero chance.
Red Bull KTM BTO Husqvarna-zero chance. Roger.
Factory Honda or Geico-don't see it happening
RCH-they could use a high profile name to replace Kenny . incentive based contract?

Any serious thoughts on this. Stew is still one of If not the most popular rider in the pits so that should be a selling point but with this past seasons issues it would have to be result based.

Curious on thoughts. Serious ones. Let's not make this a hate or love thread. Just what may be possible options. I don't see him retiring yet.

In my opinion he will need to start his own team and have a proving year OR wait to be a replacement rider.

I don't see him on any other brand but suzuki and no less than a factory ride.

I heard on Pulp broadcast (rumor) JGR may have a second team, with a major sponsor. ??

Incentive contract or retirement. Regardless of if you like it or not, there is no other avenues at this point IMO.

As long as it's an incentive based contract, I see no reason he wouldn't be a valuable addition to most any team. As noted, he's one of today's most sought after and popular riders. Any news article gets a high number of views, there are no shortage of internet discussions and any TV coverage will show him, regardless of his position on the track.

The only thing with an incentive based contract....how does a team justify paying all the supporting staff if they think the "main" rider is not going to be able to compete week in and week out? I know injuries happen but there seems to be more than just the rider to consider when offering an incentive based ride? I guess someone could start a team and have a guy on the bench...just in case the "main rider" is not able to ride?

Gosh, wouldn't Husky love to see Bubba racing their bike? If it wasn't for those pesky drink conflicts...

Damaged goods....Although he could win on any given night, Anybody would be nuts to hire him to do any racing...Unless it is a performance based contract....and he is a third rider........I would suspect, he will retire as a result and hopefully still be involved in moto at some level, brand ambassador with suzuki I would suspect. I would imagine just his agents commission would be more then anyone is willing to pay.

Really if you look at his history since 2010 it has been bad to terrible for him, with a few flashes of brilliance that kept it alive. A far cry from what he achieved prior to that time.....

Um, what? He already has a contract with Suzuki through 2017 so there is indeed another option.

Don't forget... He'll probobly ride off into the sunset soon like MC, Emig, Villo, Windham, Pastrana, RC did on their respective "brands".

He's even said so himself

EDIT: So I guess I remembered it incorrectly, he didn't say he has a contract through 2017 although I remember people in the know saying he does. In this video at 3:18 he says "I've kind of decided to finish it where I'm at with these guys":

At the end of 2015 he signed a "multi year" contract with Suzuki. That would seem to mean at least 2016 and 2017 at a minimum. The RacerX story on the contract says that it is for the rest of his career, but it doesn't really define what that means.......

I thought it was common knowledge they (JS and Mookie) were starting their own team for 2017?

Can we at least wait until MX is over before all the silly season talk?

You might well be right, if indeed the contract is with Suzuki and not Yosh Suzuki ...in any case any contract can be terminated earlier if either party wanted to.

Also if the rumors are true that Yosh is now a 250 only team then that kind of puts paid to any 450 for JS (and Mookie?).

I think you mean that any contract can be terminated if "both" parties want to, not "either". Otherwise, there's really no point of a contract. Unless a contract is specifically unilateral (example is a life insurance policy, etc.) then it takes both parties agreeing to set the agreement aside.

If one party terminates a bilateral contract unilaterally, that's breach.

Quite (and very) obviously both parties need to agree to a termination of a contract....my point is that if one party wanted out then usually that is what will happen

Seriously people! This is not a place to talk about where riders will be next season racing dirt bikes. This is a place to talk about....uh, never mind.

Hrs already said he is with the same team next year, no changes. It was a video a few weeks ago, maybe a month or so by now. He plans to race this upcoming year then retire.
