2017 crf factory japan bikes forks

Anyone surprised that Honda is "likely" going back to showa twin chamber mechanical spring forks.

If they were going to go back to the mechanical spring forks I thought they would go for the showa single function spring fork. Not the twin chamber spring forks....

I'd like to see them go back to the SFF coil spring forks and perfect those.
I don't, spring on each side or none at all! Laughing

To note however, Akira Narita has been running Showa Twin-Chamber works forks on his Honda for a few seasons now...

I know that. Transworld said the 2017 oem honda bikes "should" come stock with twin chamber spring forks.

I just thought they would have gone back to the sff spring fork like the kx 250f or the rmz 250 and 450 before they went too air.

Because sff spring is newer technology then twin chamber right. ...

But Showa's twin chambers are quite a bit better than their SFF offering...

I will admit though that I had a few people confirm to me the past three weeks that the 2017 Honda CRF450R will have Showa Twin Chamber spring forks... I believe it'll based off the 48mm version we last saw on the CRF250R before it went to air.

Great forks. Better than SSS IMO, once set up. But that's just me and I always seem to be able to get Showa's working better.

Yamaha figured out that the air fork didn't work too well back in 1976, I guess it just took 40 years more for Honda to come to the same conclusion.

Maybe one day they will ditch the twin muffler gimmick too?

Funny thing, I was at my unfriendly local Honda dealer today, LOTS of unsold CRF's with big sale tags still sitting on the sales floor. It never used to be that way...

I would be surprised if they went back to spring forks, I wouldnt mind of they went back to PSF-1's they are better than PSF-2's...I guess we shall see in 2-3 months time.

As ML says Narita has been running twin chamber springs for a while now so that doesnt mean they will come on the showroom floor.

It doesn't, but It's striking that Hondas poster boy (Narita) doesn't want to run air forks.

Everyone's got a choice. It's just a matter of buying the right bike or doing a swap.

What Narita runs is really irelivant. Like you mentioned factory riders can ride what ever they want. If you read the transworld honda spy photo write up, the transworld guys ask honda development guys what will make its way onto the 2017 production bikes. That's when people from Honda said they would be moving back to the twin chamber spring fork design on 2017 oem crf models. It's not set in stone, but highly likely.

I'm just basing this info on what transworld wrote. Not on what Narita has been running for the past couple of years suspension wise.

It seems I'll ride a red bike next year then. I already planed a KXF + cone valves but this will be cheaper.

its hard to sell the idea of air forks to the public when we hear over and over their sponsored riders dislike them. Doesn't matter if the few of you out there love them or not. Top riders have been struggling with air forks since they made there way on production bikes a few years ago. Even Hondas top guy runs spring. What does that tell the buying public? It does matter. He represents the very top of the food chain for this new bike. The mx world is watching and waiting for this new bike. Mark my word, spring forks will be on the 17 Honda. Air forks were and are a marketing disaster. Honda will join the current Jap leader, Yamaha, and bring back the spring fork, done.

I know for a fact i'm as fast on air than spring. Actually I don't dislike my PSF1 at all.

But the knowledge that it's an inferior tecnology and that the only reason they put them is to save a couple of bucks of their overpriced bikes upsets me a great deal.

The PSF-1s that I have are set-up by PC and they're THE BEST forks I've had...
