I would imagine a bigger version of the all new 2016 KTM 125/150.

Yep it will be. It will be hard to stay away from the '17 250xc personally.

They better make a bunch of them! I wonder if they will get the aer forks too. Can't really tell from those pics.

I'm pretty sure Michael knows Sleeter... I doubt if Sleeter would risk getting fired for us... Maybe GuyB will put him on the guest list... Woohoo

That link was posted in August, but I'd assume nothing has changed since.

Every preproduction test bike photo has what appears to be a carb. If they come out with DFI, I'll be shocked and fully admit I was wrong.

It comes with a carb is my prediction. Just a new motor design.

I saw a pic of a 17 but did not state what model. Had a carb. Hard e start, behind the cylinder like 4 strokes.....All new frame, plastics and engine cases.......My guess is 210lbs or whatever the legal limit is for 2 strokes (dont feel like looking it up).....

Its gonna rock whatever it is....Yamaha better get busy.

No doubt the 2017 250's (and rumoured big bore) are going to sell out quick when they come out later this year.

That's the biggest 250 pipe I've ever seen.

I suggested a 450SX a while back. I sure hope that KTM didn't forget.

I would be curious is KTM offered a 300SX that was the same as the 250SX except with a different top end.

I mean...They already did that exact thing with the 125SX/150SX.

They'll just offer a kit as they have done for years now - more money in it.

Ace - That pipe, is not particularly big. Hell, other than the extra header length (the 'bellies' being quite small), my 500s have pretty small volume pipes, considering the engines size. I once got curious, and checked the volume of a KTM 250 pipe against 3 different types of pipes I had for my 500, and there was little, to no difference in fluid volume. Checking my mates TM 300s chamber, revealed it held about 250cc more fluid than the largest volume 500 pipe I had.

As much as I'd love to see a 300+cc /350+cc /400+ cc 2t (and, said type of bike would get my 'vote' with it releasing a bit of my wallets contents) , I'd say we will have only that 'big bore' option - a 72mm piston / barrel chucked onto a 250, for a 'square' engine. It's a very cheap, and profitable way of selling a 'big bore' 2t . I really do hope I'm wrong with my pessimism . It's Good business practice for KTM / other 2t manufacturers, overboring a 250.. A modern, mellowly /mildly tuned, around about 400cc 2T - it would be one of the easiest / fastest bikes to ride, from novices to the very best riders.

From the Transworld pics, it looks like it is a case reed motor. Has there been a production 250 with case reed before?

edit: my bad, I never noticed that the KTM's were already case reed.

I hope your wrong as well. Either way I'm ready to snag a new 2017 Orange bike. A light 250 with 300 jug will have to do. Maybe a kx500/04yz steel frame build for the dunes if they don't release a bigger option. Patience is tough!

I hope the 17's are epic, so I can snag a 16 for a hell of a deal haha. Unless they come with AER forks. Then I'll have a dilemma

I think it would be super cool if husky ended up getting the new 300 mx bike considering they don't have a 150 in the lineup.
