Guys,
I am looking to add a bike to the stable. The pricing on the 2017 KTM 250SXF is pretty aggressive to move out the older stock. Do any of you know whether or not there have been issues with the transmission on the 2017? Any direct experience with the issues? I'm on the fence whether or not to pay the extra money and get the 2018 and am looking for some feedback. Please be cool with the responses.....I would probably crap all over myself for this question if I wasn't me. Just looking for general feedback and appreciate the serious responses.

On paper.....there are a few changes. Kind of on the down low.....they started updating some of the transmission parts around the factory edition 16.5. From what i understand but am trying to firm up.....its hit or miss on whether or not the changes made it to the 2017.

I'm not sure KTM or Husky have done any changes on the bottom end over the past couple years , so I can't comment on that part of it. But have seen those bikes get a lot of hours out of them with no issue. We hear about a few of them going bad on here , but out of the 1000's of them that have been sold....you'll usually only hear about the couple that failed. On a side note....I think KTM and Husky have the best warranty in the business. I wouldn't hesitate buying a new one at all. I say go for it 520.

I broke 2nd gear in my 2016. I replaced it with gears from the 2018. From memory, the 2017 showed the same part number as my 2016. You might want to check the parts lists to confirm.

FWIW, i have a buddy running a '17 250xcf with now well over 100 hours no issues what so ever other than the usual maintenance.

There was a thread on this in the Tech Help forum. Apparently the 16-17 2nd gear has holes in it (for weight reduction I would guess) The updated part has no speed holes.

A big trade up on the 2018s is the upgraded internals on the fork

At the moment a 17' TC125 but I'm pairing that up with a 17' or '18' TC250 this spring. I still have my 06' RM250 as a big project bike ( which I can't wait till finished!).

Tell ya....I've been a hardcore Kawi and Honda 450 guy the past 15 years....and I fell in love with those Husky / KTM chassis. The 125 is just awesome....and it'll be even more awesome getting a matching 250!! Hot damn....this next summer is gonna be a blast!
