Sure enough with around 4-5 hours on the bike was riding yesterday looked down and low and behold the right fork was covered in fluid this really chaps my ass seeing as I went threw like 4 sets on my 13 till I switched to skf now it's the same damn deal all over again it's rediculous IMO. Any suggestion as to who I should send these things to that's relatively close in like KY-TN-VA area and has anyone else had any trouble yet??

Are you pulling down on the tiedowns too much during transporting your bikes?

You assume they are air forks. He didn't say 250 or 450.

So the 250 Kawi has full oil and spring forks?

Never been through a set using tiedowns nor in 5 hours of use. I get a full season out of a set.

Stay out of the roost. Could simply be bad luck. One misplaced rock from roost or your own front tire can nick a lower tube. It doesn't take much of a nick to rip a seal. Especially if the nick is closer to the upper fork tube, where the seal is running over it a lot more than it would if the nick was at the bottom of the lower tube.

All forks are "air forks" even if their is a spring in them, if you don't believe me did you ever raise your oil height to fight bottoming?

Dude you blew a seal... Replace it and get back out there, the type of fork has no bearing on if your seal lets go.

Are you sure you don't have a nick on your fork tube from a rock or whatever? Back in '04 I got one on my new bike and the bloody thing kept blowing seals on the left side. I filed the nick, even put nail polish in it, then emery clothed it, but it still went every couple months. Drove me crazy.

If you run your finger nail over the nick and you can feel it catch, it's enough to rip a seal.

As for the near TN-NC-VA shop, TotalControl is a pretty good place. Not sure on turnaround time though. IMO id just buy the tools and do it myself tho.

Nope...I hail my bikes in my van and there's hardly any pressure on the forks at all

Nope no nick in the tube anywhere and the bike is a 450...on my other bike once I installed the skf seals I never had another issue and raced the bike 2 seasons before I sold it and my buddy has it now still going strong so I'll definitely be going that route with these.

I have 6 hrs on my 2016 450 Kawi with no problems so far, but I never had any on my 2015 KX450F TAC fork either. I have a set of SKF seals on my shelf in the shop just in case though.

make sure your forks are not in a bind with your axle when you put them back together, or else it puts lots of force on your bushing and seals.

My buddy has a 2016 KXF 450, same thing happened after 3 hours !

I don't have air forks myself, but from what I read too much air in the outer chamber can lead to leaky seals.

Same with my PSF 1's on my 14 Honda.. not a leak one...might have his forks in a bind.. gotta keep your bike 's forks fairly clean.. I've seen spring forks blow seals with only a handful of hours on a new bike too.. a few times.. gotta keep em half ass clean.
Could be a kawi thing?

Yep. The more the forks are compressed, the better the seal. Funny that people think you can tie down a bike too much but don't think bottoming out multiple times per ride is going to hurt it.

Clean your fork legs after a moto and don't let dirt dry on the inner tube.

My '13 KXF ran 2 years on the stock seals before I replaced them because I was changing oil. Seems to be this illusion going around that air forks go through seals. I disagree.

I blew a fork seal, smashed my pipe to the frame, broke the front fender all before I had 2 house on the bike. I never even crashed either, just hit a tree.

Point is: fix the seal and get over it. It's a dirtbike.
