I hadn't heard of this yet, does anyone know what the reason fro the recall is? I would assume it's not related to the shifter bearing/roller from last years bike, but the story doesn't give details of the issue.

What could cause that?

Hazard:
The engine can lock up during operation, causing a rider to lose control of the vehicle and crash, resulting in injuries and death.

It is a faulty balancer gear on the crank. Only a limited number of bikes have the bad gear. You can check your VIN # for verification. It is an easy fix. A couple of new gears on the clutch side and some gaskets and retainers and your done.Don't blow it off, because it can cause catastrophic damage.

Thank you, I know a few families that have new 2015's now and I want to spread the word so everyone knows.

i read 123 bikes were affected. the dealer ran my vin when i picked mine up,it was clear. a dealer in indiana had one that was in the bad vin range and he couldnt sell it until balancer gear was updated. i think it was the material not the design.

One local bike was recalled. The handful of other 2015 YZ250F were good to go. As stated it's a quick and easy fix for the dealer.

Has anyone heard anymore on this? Just called the shop I bought it from and they ran my vin and didn't find a recall, however mine was bought in the same time frame as the recalled ones and I was out riding today and the motor completely seized up on me. It's stuck in gear and also won't kick over. Let me know if anyone has heard anything. Thanks!

Smoothies, luckily it happened on the landing of a pretty mellow table so I was okay, Thanks! And I will definitely be contacting Yamaha tomorrow and try to get it figured out!

Yea the 14 , people had a lot of trouble with them. Very strange being a Yamaha and all normally rock solid.

Nothing changed in 15, local builder here has put about a dozen CP rods in them. Nasty surprise when they break.
