Sixth Annual Amateur Supercross Welcomes Fresh Changes for 2015

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (January 29, 2015) - With only five weeks until the sixth annual Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross, MX Sports and the G.O.A.T himself are pleased to share the Ricky Carmichael Signature-Designed Daytona Supercross track layout for 2015. For the eighth straight year, the 15-Time Champion has added his expertise to the professional course design, which will become a legendary amateur supercross track on Sunday, March 8 and Monday, March 9.

The 2015 Daytona Supercross track will have a fresh look with the starting gate moving to the west end of the tri-oval. Moreover, the legendary Daytona racetrack will run in reverse, something that hasn't been done in quite some time. Carmichael adds, "It's so cool to be able to lend a hand in designing one of the most famous tracks in supercross history, but it's even better to bring that same design to amateur racers the very next day."

While the track design will be almost identical to Saturday's Daytona Supercross by Honda-where the fastest professional racers in the world go to battle-the obstacles will be tamed to accommodate amateur racers of all ages and skill levels.

"As soon as the pro supercross finishes up on Saturday night, it's all hands on deck to re-work the Daytona Supercross track and get it ready for 7:30 a.m. amateur practice on Sunday morning," said MX Sports Director Tim Cotter.

The sixth annual Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross will take place Sunday, March 8 and Monday, March 9, 2015. Classes for this prestigious event are filling up quick and many classes are sold out. For more information on available classes, please visit www.racedaytona.com.

About Daytona Amateur Supercross

The Ricky Carmichael Daytona Amateur Supercross, produced by MX Sports, offers an opportunity for amateurs to compete on some of the most prestigious motorsports grounds in the world - Daytona International Speedway. Run in conjunction with the Daytona Pro Supercross during the first weekend in March, the two-day amateur event follows a supercross format, using heat races and last chance qualifiers to seed the field of riders into a main event in each class. Classes are available for youth riders on 50cc bikes all the way up to Vet and Senior classes. Riders do not need to qualify at other races in order to participate in the RCSX at Daytona. Just as an FYI, a while back they did some repaving at the Speedway, and lost some width on the pit side for sure, and I think they may have also lost some to the track apron.

I like all kinds of motorsports but drag racing not so much, guess they can't use the track because of the daytona 200

Yeah, road racers sort of object to having big piles of dirt on the pavement. Wink

Unless the crowd are allowed NERF guns to fire at the riders, it looks like it's going to be a dull one.

Daytona has never been that great to be a spectator, you are almost better off watching it on TV.

When SX is in baseball stadiums we get complaints that the tracks are too tight and need longer rhyhym sections. Then we get to Daytona and all the complaints are 'the straights are too long'...

I like Daytona for the speed, that is one of the reasons I like the Monster Cup in Vegas because you can see how fast they get going with the long straights.

I thought Daytona was better on TV until I actually got to witness it live, That track gets rough as hell and the atmosphere is amazing in that town the whole week.

I agree that the atmosphere is great. We would go down for bike week and the 200 and the short track race but the best was the 40 rider gate for the SX. It has been watered down now so its not the same bike week.Sad
