Did 4 20 min motos on the 450 yesterday..... I must say this is the most amazing bike I have ever ridden. The power is so hooked up and linear it's like your throttle hand is coming meted to the rear wheel. You can hop out of ruts early and cut cut under anyone in the most hooked up manner. I honestly did the think it'd be this good. The stock suspension was OK nothing amazing but definatley raceable. If your one of those people who like your stuff on the stiff side like me you'll like it. I ride it back to back with my friends 15 honda 450 and the honda don't even compare. They both have a light feel but the Ktm tops it. I've been a honda guy my whole life and this is my first brand switch. Once everyone gets them broken in and setup for themselves I see this bike just getting better. For the record I'm not just saying how great this bike is because I bought one. If I bought a bike I don't like I'd be the first to tell you.

Awesome...I'm dumping Honda.

How are the lap times in comparison?
I didnt take lap times down but definatley felt faster on the Ktm. It's just so much more hooked up than the honda and very confidence Inspireing. I've always loved honda because of the weight and the ergos. But now the Ktm is lighter and feels just as comfortable.

Have any of you guys installed the new FMF system on the bike? Does the bike need a remap or flash? What have you experienced?

I have one on order. No remap required. But I won't get to install or ride it any time soon thanks to this leg of mine. But when I do get it on, I'll be happy to share some thoughts. All reports I've heard are that it's a worthwhile mod that makes it a little "punchy" in the midrange.

I have the FMF pipe. It's very impressive to say the least. Dropped almost three pounds off the bike and improved power across the board. All without ruining the smooth electric like delivery. Great pipe!

Action Motorsports in Decator, Texas has them in stock.

Such a bummer Digger, I hope you heal up soon and can give us a killer report!

Paul, thanks for your info. I installed mine last night and had a hard time starting after she was all together. Usually shes a first push pony, but she gave me a hard time. Hence the thoughts on the remap...

One more question, I noticed you switched out your grips. Did you get a new throttle tube or just cut the grip off?

I have not had any starting issues, before or after the FMF pipe install. She fires right up.

Yeah I wanted my favorite grips installed so Action Motorsports installed the KTM Powerparts Offroad Throttle Cam System (Product Code: U691.0016KTM). They couldn't get the grip off the OEM throttle tube.

That throttle cam system comes with stock and two less progressive cams. This means you'll have a longer pull. G2 (who makes that kit) sells a quick turn kit that includes a 10% more progressive cam, and you can order a 20% cam from G2 direct. The roll on from bottom to half throttle is the same, the cam profile effects how the second half of the throttle rotation comes on.

My take is that I like the faster cams. It's less rotation to full throttle. But you have to chose what's best for you.

The grips won't come off of the OEM tube since they're designed as "clamp-on" grips.

It should. The tube itself is the same as previous models. I'll try to confirm what year it goes back to. If you use the quicker cams, you have to grind the stop off the inside of the housing. With a dremel, it takes about thirty seconds.

Thanks, the 2012 tube diameter was too big to fit into the housing. It was pitching.

Page 76 in the owners manual shows and indicates that the bike comes with two throttle guide plates...... the extra black plate was not present in my kitWink

I'd be curious if the stop removal would fix that issue? I knew I was going to have to grind the stop, so I did it before I ever test fit the pipe.

Here's some photos. The 2012 throttle tube is 1.10in and the opening on the housing is about 1.15in.

The 2015 FE tube diameter is only 1in. Maybe the 14-15 bikes used this size also?

Wonder if the aftermarket ones are a smaller diameter? Mine went on with no issues and it's a G2. Let me check G2 and see what years they say theirs fit. I'd go measure mine...but the whole broken leg / bed bound thing rules that out.

Stand by.

Quick look shows 1999-2015 is the same. I can vouch for the G2 products and their figment as myself and digger both use them on our bikes. The only change was grinding the stop inside the housing.

I called G2 after seeing the 15.5 has an updated throttle on it and they assured me that tube and cam system I bought from them is the correct one. I've raced it once and ridden it twice and I love the quicker cam. I've ridden the bike at 3 very different types of tracks & it continues to just impress the hell out of me. It is truly an awesome bike, so damn easy to ride and feels like my 300 on the track but better and the power is just linear and it is so FAST!

Pulled my throttle apart and the FE 250 comes with the black larger throttle cam. The manual indicated it had the grey one. So that is good. Switched the map to aggressive (2 in the airbox and 2 on the bars) and went to a 52 rear sprocket. Wow what a difference……..I love the hit and the sweet spot - it adds so much more and this is an awesome bike to begin with!
Mounted up the WP Cone Forks (thanks Slipdog for helping get this setup) and they are so much better. The Trax shock is out a week or so……
With these changes this bike is so much fun. I do believe it is the best bike I’ve ever owned. Responsive like a fast 2 stroke.
Have the FMF pipe assembly coming – looking forward to the improvements that makes.
I also ride with earplugs and they are also an HP improvement as you disregard the engine noise and run up the RPM.

I'm crossing my fingers this is the same diameter? A bit cheaper then getting it from KTM... What do you think?

Some of us didn't get that extra cam. I'll check again but haven't seen it.

Tim, are you riding at all next weekend? I'm heading back to Portland from CA for a week or so, we can kick some tires. I'll be at PIR Thursday, Mtn View Saturday and Washougal Sunday...

Call them like I did. They were super helpful and they gave it to me much cheaper than the price you have listed there and they shipped it to me for free.

Pounded out and 1.5 hours yesterday at Rockhill and will go to Albany Wednesday. I'll PM you my mob #
