As far as clickers go, on my 150 I went 14 clicks out on compression, 10 clicks out rebound. I found that a pretty good starting point. I'm 6'0" 140lbs.

I've ridden mine twice so far. I did the jetting changes with a 40 pilot & 160 main with the NECJ needle on the 3rd clip setting on Saturday for Sundays ride & got my FMF pipe & silencer on it for yesterdays ride & my question is that I noticed a faint ping here & there on Sunday with the new jetting specs & the stock pipe & silencer & pump gas. So moving onto to yesterdays ride with the FMF combo & a 50/50 combo of Sunoco ultra & Sunoco supreme race fuel (112 octane) at 40:1 with Maxima 927 it was pinging like crazy under a load. It was very very noticable, It was the same track but it 80 degrees on Sunday & 60 degrees yesterday. I'm a little confused now. I have only changed the pipe & silencer & I ran a better fuel & it was pinging way way too much. What do you guys think?

I've owned my 13 250SX for about 6 wks now & I truly love this bike & with the handful of small changes that Ron Bushey has done to it, it definitely is without a doubt the best 2 stroke & the fastest 250 2 stroke that I've ever ridden. That being said I hate the whole air filter set up & especially how the cage doesn't seem to want to seat securely like any other bike that I've owned. I've only done about 10 filter changes on this bike & each time I'm double & triple checking the cage alignment & my biggest fears happened yesterday. I didn't have the cage properly aligned (or it seems that way) & I sucked sand & ruined my engine. I'm on the phone trying to locate a 300 SXS kit right now. I figure why not. I know 4 guys that have 12 & 13 SX250s who have the 300 kit & they all told me to do it & not lose a moments sleep about doing it cuz it's that good. Wish me luck :-)

I don't seem to have that issue with my bike. The cage always seats in fairly easy. I like the design of the airbox and it hasn't given me any issues. Maybe your cage is defective? I don't want to go to the 300 kit because i race 250 and open, but if your just open then I would absolutely do it. I do love the bike though. After getting the suspension dialed in better i couldn't ask for much more. Love the power range of the bike. The KX was really snappy and really hit hard with the red power ban! haha but this bike has a hit, but its a little mellower and is a lot broader. No compliants..... yet!

Cool pics! Have you tried the FMF pipe for it? I also have some very good jetting specs that we got right from the factory KTM mx team. The bike sounds & runs so different now. It is 450 fast out of the turns & down the straights now :-) So... back to the filter cage thing, a few of my local buddies with KTMs have chimed in & kind of agreed with me but said it's just more of a technique of putting it in & once you get the hang of it that it's super easy BUT one totally agreed & hated his filter set up & he also sucked sand & ruined his motor (which I didn't know). He bought the Twin Air billet cage & it has like four tabs on it that totally lock it into place & he said that it fits & works way better & the way that the stcok cage should work. I'll ordering one of those too. Still trying to find a 300 kit... :-(

I haven't tried any pipes yet, but i need one now. I took a big rock to the pipe and smashed a good portion of it in. I popped it back out as best i could, but this winter it will get a new one. I wasn't sure witch way to go though. I looked at DEP's dyno sheets for it and it doesn't look like nearly as big of gains as the other bikes. I'll have to look into which one i'd like. That would be great if you shot me those carb specs! haha. I def. will be looking into the billet cage. I always prefer them anyway. I also want to get a wash cover, but good accessories don't seem to be readily available yet.
*Edit: are those your carb. specs above?

42 pilot, NOZE needle 3rd setting (optional KTM200 needle), 178 main jet & I may go to a 180. I've gone from 50/50 on the fuel to straight Sunoco Supreme race fuel & I'm still at 40:1 with Maxima 927. The bike flat out rips now & I have so many people telling me how good it sounds & the 450 guys telling how they can't catch me. How in the world is a 158-160 main jet supposed to work in these bikes??

i think the twin air powerflow kit uses pins that make the cage only go in one way and the pins got through the special filter it comes with so you cant do it wrong, Robby did it wrong first day on his 11 450 totaled it

I bought the Twin Air kit for my 2013 150SX because we had that issue with our 08 144SX. Didn't do any damage but came close!! Not sure if I or the youngest son failed to get the filter correctly aligned that time but I can bet I've been guilty at least once. If the retainer doesn't snap easily into place, chances are the cage is not aligned.

Same thing happened with my 09 250f. I've always been paranoid about it and I came up way short on a fairly decent sized jump and that's what popped it out. The pins at the top came out. Within half a lap bike was nearly dead and ran great all day.

Well I came up very short on a 120' triple on back to back laps on Saturday & the guys who were standing there watching said the ground shook in the pit area which a good distance away. Do you think on one of those back to back massive jolts that it may have dislodged the cage a bit & allowed to dirt to get in? As I stated in an earlier post Ive been very very careful when installing the filter & I'm 99.9% that it was in the right way.

Im going to get a new bike next year as my 150sx is epic, but I want a little bit more power to make it easier to clear a couple of the huge jumps on my local track, and I am kind of torn between a 2013 250SX 2 stroke, or a 2013 350f, any advice as to which one to go for?

Why not the 250SX with the $799.00 300cc kit? 55(?) HP and a buttload of torque still for a grand less than the 350? Not to mention it's 20 lbs. lighter and a whole lot less complicated to work on.

It wouldn't surprise me. Do you remember where the filter came dislodged? Mine came apart at the top of the air box where the pins connect to the plastic. It was still hooked in at the bottom. And ya seems like a similar scenario. I came up short on a 105 ft sand double. That's the only time it ever happened to me. Although a friend of mins had the same happen to his 144. 08 I believe. Not sure how meticulous he was with his air filter though.

I've ridden both bikes & definitely go for the 13 250SX. It is way way faster & just a blast to ride. The 350 was just OK for me. It felt like a big bore 250F & had to be ridden that way. You can't lug it around like you can the 250SX. The 250SX feels like a 125 on the track after getting off of the much heavier 350F. The magazines say that the 250SX & the 350SXF has very similar HP, well it doesn't feel that way on the track. The 250SX feels like it has 10 more HP! Get the 250SX, you won't be sorry.

I took the air box cover off on Saturday night to see how it looked from the days ride & everything seemed normal & the filter appeared to be right where it belonged but when I took it off there was dirt on the inside of the sealing lip on the lower left hand corner of the filter & then I saw dirt in the boot & that's when I took everything apart. So it appears based on looking at the fliter that it shifted just a bit to the right & let a ton of dirt by & right into my motor. The last time I sucked sand was 1993 :-(((

Cheers, might have to take both 13 models for a test drive. I rode the 2012 versions and found the 350 sxf a lot easier to go fast on but not nearly as fun. Since it is now lighter and better it may well be more fun now though.. Guess I cant really go too far wrong with either choice! Or maybe just another 150...i got about 5 months until the snow clears to think about it, going to go around in circles until then I imagine. 250sx, no 350sxf, no 150sx, etc etc. haha

I wrenched at the SX's one year for Steve and was wondering if he still rode any.
