awesome- thanks for that ping!
going to the darkside (4 stroke) for next season, and can't make my mind up what colour to get!!
Gonna keep my Eric Gorr RM 300 2 stroke and my eric gorr yz155 2 stroke to play on but i've been lucky enough to get some more funding from my sponsor for next season (theyve promised me a 450) - i feel that i'm at too much of a disadvantage on the 2 strokes (it doesnt help that im 6ft 1 and 210 pounds) - its ok racing in the 2 stroke champs when everyones on equal machinery, but when lining up against a full gate of 450s in local A races/ i feel that im at a huge disadvantage (especially on hardpack)

I've always ridden suzuki 2 strokes- but the weight of the suzuki 450s puts me off a bit (the honda's are way lighter) - i hear good things about the new kawasaki's. Alot of people i ride with have had alot of gearbox and clutch issues with the honda's aswel (down the the fact they have 3 dogs on the gears? and a 4 spring clutch?) mainly the 2009/2010/2011 hondas that have had issues, but as far as i know they havent altered the gearbox or clutch this year? (they are supposed to have improved the handling with the lowering link and stiffer fork springs)
Kawasaki have gone back to 4 dogs on the gears aswel havent they?

thanks again

Word of mouth from local riders is the Honda. Everyone is raving about it. Supposed to be night and day different from last year.

Can't say how accurate that is .... seeing as how I'm still staying away from the dark side on my YZ250.

i'm not completely going to the darkside- still keeping 2 of my 2 strokes (and possibly getting an 89 yz 250 to restore over the winter and race in the evo class at the national twinshock champs next year - im gona make it a donny schmit chesterfield yamaha replica Smile )

I hope that's true. I know next year before I buy a new bike , I want to be able to test ride a 2012 Honda if I can get my hands on one.

Kind of hard to imagine that they have created some magic with that few changes?

hey there Ping! Are you guys going to do a slightly more detailed shootout this year? I always like to check out all the shootouts and i like that Racerx usually has some of the best test riders for their tests, i just wish they would have a slight bit more detail sometimes. Either way, i look forward to your shootout!

As far as the MXA shootout, i can't picture them picking the KX first because they always complain about the size of it. But it should be interesting to see.

The KX frame has shrunk - no more big bike feel.

It has shrunk a little bit, but its still a bigger bike....i owned an 09, didn't think it felt too big...and have read lots of reviews over at thumpertalk from guys that own the 2012 and say they love it, corners better etc......this could be the year for the KX....

i was just saying that MXA always comes down hard on its size.

I rode the '12 kawi yesterday and loved it. Haven't rode the other '12s yet though, so I can't say it is best in class, but I felt good on the kawi right away.

Here is my choice:

1. YZF
2. KXF
3. CRF
4. RMZ
5. KTM
6. KTM350

The question I have is, will the general public be offered that new EFI/flux capacitor KTM450 that Dungey is racing or will their 450 still be that old 1970s carb version?

In all honesty it should come down to where you can get a deal on parts. All the bikes are great and capable. The only real advantage I see between all of them is the Honda is lighter stock. If you believe all the goofballs on here it will also need the most suspension work.

i should be getting the bike for free and parts free or at cost through a sponsorship deal (if not then i'll be sticking to my 2 stroke that I got this year- I cant afford to be spending £6k on a bike!)
The only thing I am looking at is which is the best bike! The lightness of the honda was the reason I was leaning towards a red one- although I like the idea of the adjustability of the kxf (the pegs/ bars etc and the different mapping options / launch control etc)
I should have the chance to test a 2012 crf 450 soon, but not likely I will be able to ride anything else any time soon as I should be having the rod removed from my tibia very soon!

I know alot of 'shootouts' are biased, i just find them an interesting read! Ideally I would like to test all the bikes out, but I seperated my shoulder racing on saturday, and have to get the rod removed from the tibia soon- so opportunities to test various bikes for next season will be very limited!
