Due to popular demand, I am posting my impression of my new bike, a 2011 KTM 250xc. First off, a little background info on myself. I am 16 years old, about 6'1", 190 pounds. I race a 2009 KTM 200xc in the 125/200 expert class in different cross country series here in Texas. We (my parents and I) sold my 250sx-f and promptly picked up the new 2011 (Big thanks to Chip and Big Dan at Munn Racing for all that they do and have done for us!). I had the 250f for a little over a year and could just never "gel" with it the way I wanted. I love the two strokes in the woods and racing across fields. This is why we decided, with the advice of Big Dan, to go with the 250xc. Anyway, this weekend was a race in Cash, Texas (East D/FW area) and I took my new bike out for a hot lap after putting around on it for a couple minutes and learning the track on my 200. Man, that 250 is great. Somehow, it is easier to ride than my 200. The power is sooo smooth. This bike is (deceptively) very fast. It almost has the power spread of a four stroke, but with the light and agile feeling of a smoker. The jetting was not spot on (understandable), but it was not much of an issue. We will play around with it later. To give you an idea of the low end power of this bike, I was riding in the woods at a pretty good pace with the bike at very low rpm, where I would be making a ton of noise on my 200. The new chassis and ergonomics are top notch. The frame makes any turn "flow" quite a bit better and stays planted and balanced with little effort. The weight difference between the two was not very noticeable, surprisingly. Overall, this is the most comfortable I have ever been on a bike that I have ridden for less than 30 minutes. It is a blast to ride and easy to be fast on. If you are looking at a new two-stroke (or maybe even if you aren't!), I would say that either one of the 2011 KTM 250 bikes would more than satisfy your needs and wants.

Here is a phone pic, will upload a couple more after I wash the bikes tomorrow.

Haha, what? The front number plate is a left over one, and the pre-printed graphics are on straight. Maybe I'm blind?

Nice! I've had many KTMs myself. Quality bikes.
X2. KTM stepped it up a notch for 2011 IMO.

One of our best local pros has gone back to a 250SX and he is dominating the 450s on it. Sweet ride.

I'm thinking of getting the 2011 200. But the 250 sounds easier to ride?

If you are getting a 2011 200, it won't have the new frame. KTM only makes the 200 in the xc-w model now, for some reason. I would suggest a 250 or the 150xc.

16 and better grammar than most here. Nice writeup. You should have a job at one of the magazines.

Bikes kind of ugly I think. But thats not the important part.

I know, right! I am home-schooled, to the amazement of many people on here I am sure. I would love to write for a mag. I've written a couple of race reports for Supercross that people on here liked. Not to toot my own horn or anything.ha. I also "applied" for the internship Gibby was offering earlier in the year.

Nice bike, and nice job focusing on your education! All the home-schooled friends I have are exceptionally smart. One of them has several free ride offers for law school. Keep it up!

Not sure what an xc-w is? Here's what I'm after, http://www.ktm.com.au/bike.php?bike=220

Different in the US maybe?

the W stands for wide ratio as woods bike tend to have wider ratios than their MX cousins...

My bad, I didn't see you were an Aussie. That bike doesn't have the new frame obviously, but it's a great scooter nonetheless. You can't go wrong with the 200 really, it has enough power.

Damn thanks, so the exc frames are different than the sx and xc-w frames? i'm not familiar with KTM's. I'll have to go back to the dealer to have a chat.

Good one Fog! I've been thinking of this one for a couple of weeks now, your post I think convinced me. Couldnt decide between the 300 and the 250, both look great and this year they have a 6 speed box.

E start, and has the torque switch thingy for the ignition on the bars too!

The offroad models we get in Australia are called EXC, they are generally close in spec to the US XC-W models - wide ratio boxes, engines tuned a little differently for offroad/enduro, different suspension etc. The US also gets a line called XC which is basically an SX version with a few slight mods for offroad racing, but same engine, suspension, frame etc.

The normal flow of tech for KTM is that the SX/XC lines get the new frames/suspension, then it follows on to the EXC/XCW models a year or two later.
