I've found a good one near me and I'm pretty much going to buy it. Apart from the plastics, how much different is this bike to a 2015?

I'm planning to put the re-style plastics on it if it purchase the bike.

According to MXA, the forks on the 15 are the latest generation SSS. How much different are they to the ones that come on the 08?

Bigger airbox, footpegs and yzf "like" forks on 2015. I have 2008 with restyled plastics and its awesome.
Run´s much better with Yamaha Racing piston.

Pretty much the same bike aside from the plastics, like you said, amongst minor updates. I've got the restyled plastics on mine and think it looks better than the '15 stuff. Stock aside from an fmf factory fatty + shorty and vforce3 reeds, bike is a blast. Can't really go wrong with 06+

The 08 is the same as the 15. The forks are the same. 05 got aluminum frame, 06 got SSS suspension, between then and 08 they changed small things like triple clamps with changeable bar mounts, brake discs, lighter brake caliper, and different fork lugs. From 08-14 they only changed the silencer. And in 15 they changed plastics, which includes the air box, they changed the forks and triple clamps but there is no advantage to them vs the previous.
Buy it, buy plastic and an airbox and you will have a 15
The UFO restyle kit like the one above does not reqiure a new airbox only the OEM 15 stuff.

I think they changed to a FIM sound spec that extended the silencer........so besides that not enough difference to shake a stick at.
I think my '06 as well as many others believe was the best handling overall than the other models because the SSS valving was spot on.

Yea plus the pipe is usually the first thing to be changed so not an issue. I would love to have an 08+ I was uninformed and bought a 05 thinking it was a 06. Learned the differences real quick after that. Still a great bike though

Bitchen bike. With the money you'll save from buying a new 2015, you can make this bike better than the 2015 and pay for racing.

I recommend the following:

- PC Pipe
- PC Shorty
- VForce
- Vortex (by far the best mod)
- GYTR Clutch
- Leave stock clamp offset
- O/S Front brake
- 50/50 Pump/Race Gas

The bike is bitchen. Sweiously bitchen

I have an '05. In '06, they upgraded the forks and shock to SSS. In 2015, they upgraded them to match the latest generation SSS.

It's a great bike! You'll love it!

I've got an 06. Dumped a Athena 144 on her. She sings. Love that bike.

Re did all chassis bearings. Chain and sprockets. Clutch and throttle cable and she feels brand new.

Cheers for all the info guys. I think I'll get the 2015 plastic kit with the latest airbox, seen a set on Ebay. Is the air boot the same & what about the fork guards?

By the way, your bikes look awesome.

Good question about the airboot. I believe it's the same, but I haven't read enough to answer. The 08 fork guard are a different shap from the 15. But they will bolt right on

That bike is sweet! It's like a sleeper, if you don't know what you are looking at you would easily underestimate how much work has been done to it. No crazy graphics or bling parts. Love it.
Where you saying vortex as in ignition or a sprocket gearing change?

Vortex ignition.... awesome mod. It made this bike bark.

I also have the vortex sprocket set. Vortex is offering all PulpMX fans 40%. I highly recommend its chain wheel.

I picked up the YZ a couple of weeks ago. I striped the rear end out of it and every bearing was shot, to the point where it had just started to eat into the swing arm!! I reckon it had never been greased since it rolled out of the factory. Replaced all the bearings as well as the head race, changed the oil and she was ready to ride. Took it for a ride the following day & was very impressed with it. Can't fault the suspension.

My only concern is that it bogs under full throttle coming out of corners. I've set the air screw to 1 1/2 turns out but to be honest I'm not sure what I'm doing with the carb, this something I see on the net. It's got a 13 front & 48 rear, I'm planning on going to a 50 rear but I'm not sure that'll stop the bogging.

Also on the flat turns it feels like the front wants to tuck. The forks are 5mm through but I don't want to go any higher in case I lose stability at speed.

Any help would be grateful.

All suspension setting are what MXA recommended when they tested it in 2008.

My YZ is a 125 and the vortex is for a 125. I assume you could use it for a 134, 144, 151, and 167.

How much do you weigh? I am 170 lbs (77kg) and the stock springs were too soft on my 2006 YZ125. I put in the stock springs from my 2006 YZ250 and it's perfect now. I know the tuck you are talking about. The YZ125 is not the best cornering bike on the track. I've found that careful rear sag adjustment makes a big difference. Try going 1 turn of the spring in a direction and see what it does for you. Then go back to where you were and 1 turn in the other direction and try that. You will get some idea of what's best.
