I traded this...

For this...

And, got some money on top. Bike is clean, pretty low hours, mostly stock.

I'm going to keep my RMZ 450 until I have this done, then sell the 450 & keep the RC ED.

Rotors, brakes, exhaust, new TAG products, plastics, PR2 suspenders is on the list...

Inspiration for the design of bike...

Stay tuned.

Very nice indeed! But man , that CR was one clean looking bike! Good luck with the build!

Just putting up some info on anyone that may live here in the NW , this bike popped up a couple weeks ago for sale. >> http://yakima.craigslist.org/mcy/4950984120.html

There is another 2006 RM 250 on there as well if anyone is interested.

I think you've made a terrible mistake! However, I will swing down to F'burg to take it off your hands and free you of the burden of a rebuild!

Nice bike! Exactly what I ant to find.

Awesome! You will dig it. I love my 06 RM250 & my matching 06 RM125 too.

I recently rode a 2005 RM250. (I own a '03 RM250) It's definitely a better engine and suspension package than my '03.
Now I wonder if I can get there with my bike without a major redesign. KYB vs Showa!

I'm sure you can. You should be able to find some Showa suspension components, a set of stock 04+ RM triple clamps on eBay pretty cheap. Get it revalved, good to go!

I had tons of time and money into that CR but I just couldn't justify keeping a 125 as my only bike. What I'd like to do is a quick, 75% rebuild on the RM this summer, and then over the winter do a complete tear down and powder coat the frame, and do hubs... some things I don't want to get into during the summer, I want to ride it!

@ OP

Keep both bikes, trust me!
They both compliment each other, it'll give you the inside line every time plus keep the hrs down on the RMZ

Thanks... Just added some #762 fat bars (RMZ bend) to add a little flex and not feel so different jumping back and forth between both bikes

And don't forget to add your RMZ front plate and fender!

Thanks for the info Spagina767. I have RG3 triple clamps which really help. My question is will a Racetech revalve be as good as buying Showa components? My other problem is that the 03 RM has a big hit in the power delivery. I put an 8 oz flywheel weight on it to tame the hit, but it always hits at the worst times! The 05 RM didn't have the same power delivery problem. To say the least, these RM's on this thread are inspiring! Is it just me or there a ton of RM enthusiasts on Vital?

The 03 KYBs are really a generation behind the 04 Showas. I had a 03 RM250 with KYBs and an 03 RM125 with 04 Showas, no comparisons. I did not want to believe everybody, but they were right. I had Factory Connection do them, and the tech involved help me set them up, he just said flat out, that there is more he can do with the showas vs KYBs of that generation. I sold it afterwards (250) and kept the 125. As an old guy, I can ride it a lot harder than than the 03 250. I think if you are in love with your 03 250, go ahead and make the change. You'll get more out of your riding that way. My wrists and shoulders, etc., always hurt after riding the 250. I would, however, buy an 04 and later RM250. Worth rebuilding and setting it up. FWIW.Cool

I want both of my bikes to feel the same as well, so I ordered some TAG XT-1'S, Jimmy bend, today.

I'm running the 2014 RMZ 450 front fender and number plate, same colors as Wey's bike though... I want the bike to look like the 2004, but how I would do it, not an exact replica. I like the look of the modern front end for sure.

Personally, I think it would be worth it to swap suspension, work on motor, and keep the bike you already are comfortable on & trust. Some minimal changes to the motor should be able to achieve that feel that you want.

Here's what I'd do: I'd deal with what you have, while watching eBay, until you find some good deals. Buy new suspension, get revalved/ sprung. Clean old stuff, put on eBay, pack in packaging you already have, and then sell on ebay to offset the cost. I'd definitely do that before spending the money for a revalve on the KYB stuff.

Yea, there are a lot of good bikes all over vital... pretty cool. Definitely some awesome RM's, though. This is my first RM 2-stroke since my 1994 RM 80, so I'm pumped to get some time on it.

Been a Suzuki fan from my first 2-stroke. TS-100 (don't remember the year) 79 RM125. 83 RM250, 89 RM250 retired...
2008 RMZ250F, then went retro with the 03 RM250. Kind of a theme there?
Just a joe lunchbucket amateur racer over the years. My first race track was Carlsbad in 85.
You guys have really been helpful in giving me a direction on suspension. I would hate to put the $ into the KYB and be unhappy. Off to eBay. I will also check with my mechanic Todd Thompson @ Power Curve.
