I'm looking to buy both of these. The guy said it's a 2005 crf250 & cr80 big wheel. I can't tell much by these photos. Any thoughts on if years are correct & what I should pay for each. Are these years any good? He said 250 has very little hours.

I don't think you could give me a USED CRF 250 of that year. Ticking time bomb.

Is that a Josh Grant bike????

Dude couldn't take a second to clear the shit off the bike to take a pic?

Pass. If he's that lazy then those bikes have had no service whatsoever.

04 and 05 CRF 250's are the biggest POS.. The motor WILL blow and cost more than the bike is worth to fix.

They're only good for AF conversions.

My 05 had about 300 hours before the motor grenaded. My dad has an 04 that he bought new and he has at least 300 hours on it & it's still running like a watch.

Do they turn them over 2k rpm? 300 hours is retarded without a rebuild

Thats on 04 in my AV. Havent bothered to change it, but I went through 3 sets of valves over two years on that bike. I dumped the oil and cleaned the airfilter after every ride, nothing I did helped, and this was riding it almost all in the mid- to mid top. I dont think it ever touched the rev limiter when I owned it.

Just a bad motor.

Don't believe everything you read on the internet. The 04-05 CRF450 is a great bike. The stock suspension is really good and they handle great. The only weak spot was the valve life and that can be easily addressed. I have an 05 sitting in my garage right now that is still on the original valves and has never been re-shimmed and it runs great. If you do end up having valve probs, put the 2008 head on it and maybe even some stainless valves if you really want it to be bullet proof.

That's all well and good, but we're talking about the 250F here.

05 CRF250 had the previous years oiling issues addressed. When our 04 melted down it got a mod and a 05 cylinder. Just don't spend more on it than you can get parting it out on eBay when it goes bad. Other than that, got ride the snot out of it. It just really wouldn't be worth the cost of repairs if it ever went kaboom.

Buy the CR80 for the right price, have fun with it and then sell it for what you paid for it. It's depreciated in value about all it ever could at this point. Kind of like a free bike.

It's a 2K gamble. $400 for the 80 is probably just fine, and if the 250 was maintained well and not ridden too hard it'll be a great deal. On the other hand, if the 250 grenades an hour after you pony up two thousand smakaroos, you aren't going to be very happy.

IF you trust the family friend, give it a shot.
