We have went thru several bikes over the years, both 2 & 4 stroke. At one point my oldest son rode a friends 04 KXF250 and like it a lot because it was a smaller bike than it's competitors. At the time he was riding an 04 CRF 250. If I was looking to buy a used bike now, say a 2006-2010, what bike in that era is considered the smaller bike? He isn't a big guy at 5'7"'ish 130lb and really likes that small feel. So, what should I be looking for and which one is a definite leave it along bike. I personally ride a 2007 CRF250 that he thinks "feels" much larger than that old 04 KXF.

Any advice?

Hondas and Suzukis have always felt smaller to me

Kawis feel big, but not in a bad way

Yamahas just feel all wrong

This is just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt

Ya it was a tighter/smaller feeling bike, id say the new suzuki and or kawi is pretty close although i always thought the hondas were slender feeling

I had a few of the rmz's in 06 and they felt smaller in the tank area than my new kawi. I'm 5'7 140-lbs so similar size

That 04 kxf was not a good bike. Not at all.

I have a '12 crf250r, and rode a '14 kxf250...and it was slightly bigger, but dam that bike is good.

All the bikes from Kawi during that time period were small, they were built for Bubba.

Go for the CRF250 2010-2013. It's light and nimble.

Believe it or not there is alot of truth to ur post. He helped them design those years of bikes and just so happens hese a small dude and liked a bike that fitted his size

I really wish that 250fs and 125s got smaller chassis.

Kinda lame they are the same size as their older brothers.

The 14 KXF 250 feels tiny to me. Peg to seat height is short, much less than honda

That new may be out of my price range. And JA946 I know they weren't good bikes, I just know they were small. Most folks hated those bike back then

The problem is both my boys now ride two stroke (CR125 and RM 125) so most anything is gonna feel heavier/bigger.

I had an '04 and '05 KX250F and I can agree that the bike was smaller (I was probably around 5'9", give or take an inch at the time). I have an '07 KX250F now and the aluminum frame is slightly taller. No idea on the newer gen versions though.

250F's I've ridden. I'm 5'8" and a 150lbs

04 CRF250
05 CRF250
06 CRF250
07 RMZ250
10 CRF250
12 KXF250

In my opinion the ones that felt the smallest were the 10 Honda and the 12 Kawi (and both were great bikes). The Kawi felt the easiest to "manhandle" and control. But the honda felt slightly smaller.
The RMZ felt (size wise) a lot like the 04,05,06 Hondas, with maybe a bit stronger motor.

I think the newer the better?

Where do you guys come up with this stuff? The mfrs do not design a bike intended for mass consumption by the public around the size of one professional rider.

Bubba seems to have a hard time setting up a bike for himself but you say "he helped them design those years of bikes" Laughing

I'm 5'7 145lbs. I chose a 2013 Honda CRF250r because it fit me best and then sent the suspension to Factory Connection and they lowered it an inch on both ends. I can actually start with both feet on the ground. Really like the setup.
