Hey Guys,

I know there are several of these RM250 build threads out here but I figured I would start my own to provide ideas to some guys. I'm also to plenty of ideas as well. Sold my 07 RMZ450 before I left for deployment. Once I got home, I picked up this 2001 RM250 for $1200.00 and it ran. I've torn it all down to the frame so far and will gradually be piecing this thing together as I get time and money!

Got the frame powder coated gloss black:

Sent the stock hubs to TCR in Lodi, CA and had them milled down so they are smooth and they applied their "mag" coating:

Still waiting for the suspension back from Enzo Racing. I have a set of Black Tusk rims I will be lacing up. Planning on new crank, top end, plastics, all bearings and bushings. It will basically be a brand new bike. Shooting for a total build price of $3500.00. Let me know what you guys think!

I think Suzuki would have been better off just making their sub-frames slightly tweeked from the factory. Almost every one I ever see(mine included at one point in time) have the same tweeked rear end.. lol

I've always like Suzukis due do their amazing handling. I cant figure out if the subframe itself is tweeked or if that's just a bent rear fender. When I go to mount up the new fender, I guess I'll find out ! Planning on doing a 2013 RMZ450 front fender and number plate and cutting the side panels closer to the subframe for a cleaner, more modern look. I wish UFO or someone actually made the modern kits like they do for the YZs.

Man, i picked up a bike in similar shape that Had been sitting for 6 years for $300 fixed it ip very nicely and rode the crap out of it. Easily one of my favorite bikes all time the 2001 rm250 i liked it better than the never "holy grail" years 04-07/08 the bike ran like a big 125 and if it had just a little more power i wouldve kept it. Still wish i hadnt sold it tho

What did TCR charge to do those hubs? I love the way they came out.

It was 250 for the hub coating. After shipping and them installing PivotWorks wheel bearings for both the front and rear hub, it was $330 w/ tax. I wanted to get some anodized hubs, but no one makes them from what I could tell. I guess there just wasn't enough demand for that model year. I like the coating though. It looks different and apparently they are 30% stronger according to TCR.

Laced up the rear wheel today. Front rim has been on back order for the past month. Picking up suspension from Enzo on nov 11th. Planning to soda blast the swing arm for a good cleaning. Should be able to start rebuilding the rear end here in the next week or so.

Trying to get a rolling chassis by thanksgiving. As for the engine, it will get a new crank and top end. No boring out or anything.

Does anyone know how to move this forum to the "Build Thread" forums? I just realized I accidentally posted this in the moto-related. I've been searching around to try to move it, but I haven't found anything.

Just a little update. I have been pretty busy with work and whatnot. Hard to find time to dedicate to building this thing. As of now, I have both wheels mounted to the bike. Trying to get both front and rear calipers mounted by the end of the weekend. I’m happy with how it is coming together. I’m pretty much at the point where I am going to begin tearing into the motor. Still shooting for having the bike complete around February. Here are some progress pics.

Got a soda blaster from HF. Works very well to get ride of grease and crap easily.

Here is the swing arm before soda blasting:

Swing arm and linkage after blasting:

Ran into some issues lacing up the rear wheel. After lots of research, realized I needed to slightly drill out the spoke holes in the hub to get the spokes through:

Frame + Triple Clamps + Forks:

Front Wheel Mounted:

Going to give these Torc1 Bars a try. Picked up on black Friday for $50.00 from Motosport Outlet:

Let me know what ya think!

Yeah man. It's been a pretty fun project. Consider yourself warned, it's going to cost you a lot more money than you think. I'm already over 5k into it. But I am making the bike that I want and the suspension cost almost $900.00

Looking good man! Also don't count the money as you do these things, you don't want to know anyways. Haha!

You can get those Boyesen covers looking sweet with little effort, use a very fine blast media and get the finish even. Then smooth/polish the lettering and they will look like this........

What's up Vital...had a few days off and got some goodies for Christmas. Made some major progress on the bike.Took Travis' idea and decided to stop counting the $$$. Literally over 5k wrapped in this thing, but I am super pumped with how it is going. Right now, I have to send one of the radiators to Myler's to get straightened. I need to get new hoses and some plastics and that's about it. Here are some updated photos/progress. What re your thoughts?

Pulled the clutch apart. Got this sweet flywheel/clutch basket tool from Tusk. You NEED one of these badboys.

Had some serious grooves in the stock clutch basket. RM's are known for this.

Found a spot on the case that had been welded. There was no leaking or anything. I threw some JB weld on it just to be safe.

Motor installed:

Got a 2013 RMZ450 front fender and front plate. I made a bracket out of a piece of metal for the extra support. Happy with how it came out.

Got a used PC pipe off ebay. Took the PC silencer the bike had and tore it apart, cleaned it, and repacked it. I also ordered a replacement shorty sticker from PC and added it. It looks brand new!

Shooting to be done by the end of February. I haven't ridden a 2-stroke since like 2005! Haven't ridden a bike at all for over a year. And after going to the supercross race in San Diego last weekend, I am dying to throw a leg over a bike! Let me know what you think!

Also, if any Admins see this and can move this thread to the bike builds thread (since I see I originally posted it in the wrong place), that would be pretty sweet! Thanks guys.

Graphics on. Waiting for the left radiator to get back from Myler's. I put 2013 RMZ250 side panel graphics on. Planning to trim the side panels as well to get the modern look. Really pumped with how this bike is coming out!

gat dayum, killer work man!! Is the front fender bracket you made pretty straight forward to make? Did you use a press to get the bend just right? That splash of blue on the clamps is a killer look. A lot of times people overdue a contrast color by baking too many other things match it (hubs, covers, bolts etc) IMO... You're is just right

It basically runs constantly. The soda blaster is a little finnicky at times, but it gets the job done.
Drill some extra holes in the bottom of the pick up tube of the soda blaster. It really helps.

Thanks man! And yeah, it was pretty straight forward. I just took a piece of sheet metal and cut it into a square. Then I put half of it in a vice and gradually bent it with a hammer until I had the angle I wanted. Lined it up and drilled some holes. Then just added the bolts/nuts etc.
