2000 CR250 Team replica Build FINISHED! (Final photos)

Edited Date/Time 11/1/2016 6:53pm
So I can't hope to hold a candle to the Full Tilt build, But I figured everyone might be stoked on my latest project. I inherited this bike from my uncle when he passed last fall, he had been a CR250 fan since forever and up until 2000 had bought a new one every few years like clockwork. I decided that the best way to honor his memory was to build this bike into a replica of the factory bikes from 2000. Below is the official "before" photo, and several more of where i'm at with it currently.

Looks great man. Going to be an awesome build.

What did you do to the frame and swing-arm to make them look almost new?

That's awesome. Still one of my top 2 bikes I've ever owned. I wish I'd never sold it for my 2002...

Found a very similar one, it's called an inverted front number plate by UFO but they have a slot for the stock cable guide and I would prefer one like yours where you add the cable guide.

This plate is a plasticwerks HRC replica, they pop up on eBay every so often and usually aren't cheap. I got lucky and had a friend who somehow located two of them! I'm saving the second one for another project I've got in mind. Plasticwerks is out of business now, I'm trying to locate the guy who owned it in hopes of figuring out what happened to the tooling. With some luck it's all just collecting dust somewhere.

Cool, thanks for the info. I'll probably end up going with the UFO one so I don't have to worry about breaking a rare and expensive plate.

Thanks!
I scrubbed everything with aluminum brightener then took them to AC Racing and had them put in the tumbler. It was a fair amount of work but I'm really happy with how it turned out.

Although it's just 16 years later, when you stare at the 2000 CR250 and remember what the sport was then, with the right kind of eyes you can almost see the high-water mark—that place where the wave finally broke and rolled back.”

I was also looking for one of those number plates recently to put on a '98 CR250 I was fixing up for my brother in law. I saw the following ad (On the RacerX website I think) for a similar Acerbis one, but the link on their website takes you to the page for a disc cover. I'm not sure whether they are selling the older style one or just the modernised version, but it might by worth making an enquiry. The one pictured doesn't have the slot for the brake hose guide, so it might be closer to the original than the UFO one.

Scored these on eBay! Wish I'd have bought up a bunch of these before they got discontinued.

Detailed and rebuilt the calipers and master cylinder.

I had a 2000 CR250, it was an awesome bike. Typical of Honda- they had to go and fuck in up in 01 by putting a Mikuni carb on it, then go right off the cliff with the 2002, which I thought was a trick looking lightweight schitzo powerband hard to ride turd

First I've seen of these. Looks like they just copied the best looking front plate of all time (RMZ) and added the fork protectors.

Torn between the excellence of your post and the sinking notalgia of what could have been.

Thank you for posting that.
