Heavy but great bike in the woods. My dad had a 95, sold it to a buddy and it got stolen.

If you jump that bike higher than 3 feet your arms and teeth will break into little pieces Tongue

I had the first year of those new generation RMXs. I don't know if yours came with the same limiters as mine or not. One kept the carb slide from opening all the way and one kept the exhaust valve from opening all the way. Removing them gave a big performance gain.

Those were put there for your safety, I wouldn't recommend tampering with those things!

I was hired by ASMC to help develop that bike and then an off road race team to help promote the bike. Hired Randy Hawkins who went on to win 6 national enduro championships and between Dave Bertram, myself, Steve Hatch countless ISDE gold medals...good times for sure with lifelong friendships

Here's another pic.

Mainly still stock except for the common changes for the RMX: pipe and silencer (FMF gnarly and powercore), real hand protection (Cycra), bars, and the reeds are probably replaced, but I have not yet checked. Also, has a nice Fly Racing Easy Pull Pro Lever clutch kit.

I plan to put on an RM rear fender and front number plate, and wider footpegs. Then I plan to adjust the levers and suspension a bit, and be good to go!

By the way, the spec sheet shows the '96 RMX at 238lbs. I'm guessing that by replacing the stock pipe and silencer/spark-arrestor the bike shed at least 10 pounds.

You'll love wider pegs...and the motor on that thing. Pulls like a KTM 200 but with more torque. So easy to ride.

Coyote,

The main reason I found and bought this RMX is because I used to ride RMXs many-many years ago. I did a lot of woods riding and did some harescrambles in PA, District 5. Had an '89 and a '92. Some old pics of my '92 before I sold it (should have never sold that bike).

That' s really cool that you worked on the RMX for ASMC. Any advice on set up is appreciated. Thanks.

Iconic bike.
Makes me think of Rodney Smith one of the most versatile riders/racers ever.
He did great with Suzuki in offroad.

Coyote, would it surprise you to know that even today, Randy Hawkins speaks very fondly of that motorcycle? I chatted with him regarding that bike at Ironman GNCC this year. He had some pretty cool insights on it. Great guy there.

Beautiful RMX! Good luck! I Iove it!

I came across a mint 2005 KDX220R for 2000 bucks a few months ago and kick myself in the ass everyday for not buying it. They were wonderfully fun trail bikes as well.

The best ones i used where the Fastway with the allen inserts. Have the IMS PROs now. Only thing I didn't like is sometimes you can't get your foot off the peg. You will be surprised how much you use the pegs to control the bike and how much more control you have with wider pegs.
