Hey all,
Could someone give me a quick refresher on mixing oil/gas for a 2-stroke? I'm waiting for my bike to arrive and realized I don't remember the appropriate mixing ratio. I'd like to run 32:1.

Good oil full synthetic 50:1
Crappy oil 40:1
Shit oil 32:1

Save money on brake pads but not 2 stroke oil.

I made this a while back. I found it fun to build and maybe you'll find it useful.

32 to 1 is my perfect ratio. 4x32=128 ,a gallon so put in 4oz of oil.

If you use bean oil, castor oil, like maxima 927 it degrades ,about a week is all I ever went, then used it in chainsaw weedeater or truck with carburetor.

If you are gonna left it set use something else i guess.

And the really stupid ratios like 50 and 60 to one are just to thin on oil in my opinion.

When you chop the throttle at high rpm all that is oiling those fast moving parts is the tiny amount pulled thru the pilot jet, think about it.

Everyone has their opinion.

I run 32:1 in any bike, any CC unless owners manual states to do otherwise.

Mitch Payton of Pro Circuits says "32:1" also. I trust a guy who's been building 2 stroke MX engines for decades over a snake oil MLM dealer who probably does not even ride a bike, who's telling me his miracle oil can do 100:1.

Maxima White Paper on Oil Migration

If you don't want to learn......just mix it at 32:1 and you should be good with damn near any oil.

Thanks for that white paper link.

My 2 stroke engine builder says 32:1.... Stock bikes I run what the manual calls for. They don't make those numbers up to help the oil company IMO!

Why do you mix oil in fuel for.....what are these two stroke people talk off?

I always fil ratio rite to 32:1but when you dump the oil into the gas there is always some that doesn't make it in so realistically I end up with 36:1 which is fine. Happy medium between 32 and 40.

Run what the manual says and jet accordingly. Typically 32:1

40:1 is what I've always run in the big bikes. One of those dad theories that always stuck with me- Too lean its too lean. Too rich (clogged main jet) its too lean.

Can you explain your clogged main jet theory?

If Mitch says 32:1, then I think that's the answer. That guy knows some stuff about dirt scooters

More oil in the fuel is a thicker fuel/oil mixture. That mixture passes through a main jet more slowly, resulting in a LEANER fuel/air mixture in the combustion chamber. (That's probably in the Maxima whitepaper.)

For you guys advocating a different ratio for different conditions, be aware that your jetting will change accordingly.

I always ran 32:1 on minis and 125s; 40:1 on 250s. (Maxima K2 or Bel-Ray H1R.)

It's a complicated explanation. But in a nutshell putting oil in the gas makes the bike much more fun.

I think it's a lot simpler than that. More oil in the fuel means less fuel in the fuel. The jets pass only a certain volume of fuel/oil mixture. So it makes sense that the more oil you have in the mixture, the less fuel the engine will be getting and the leaner it will be.
