Wow. I didnt know where they would go next; the backflip variations are getting played out, but with Renner and then this guy I guess the next thing is the quarter pipe.

that was really cool! not a 540, though. It's a back flip with a 1/2 twist. Can't remember what they call that in bmx/skateboarding.

Yea, it might be more like a flair, but its cool. Every time they say freestyle is getting old and running out of things to do, a new door opens.

I was wondering how they could call that a 5. You'd have to either start or land backwards to do a 5.

Not really, he lands the opposite direction than he took off from. A 360 would have had him landing backwards.

But they don't call it a 180 when you just ride a half pipe do they?

180's, 360's, 540's, etc. are spinning tricks. You stay upright. This dude is flipping and twisting. Like Tiki said it looks like a mctwist. Regardless, it's a back flip with a 1/2 twist. And regardless, it is pretty amazing on a dirt bike!

I actually think that if you compare it to other FMX spins like the 360 that Blake williams does, that qualifies as a 540. Either way, its awesome. I'm going to X, so I hope they have a Renner style quarterpipe there. At the moto X world championships, they had one like the one in the video and nobody even hit it.

On the video that Bob693 posted, what are the things on both sides of the bars; easy to see at about 2:25? Looks like there are hydraulic lines coming off them. Some kind of damper system, or the ability to lock out the suspension?

Those are his flip levers. They rotate them up when they want to do a super flip.
