Wow...brings back some memories...if you've never been roosted by a true open class 2-stroke and felt the spray of grunt from the wheel hitting you everywhere combined with the smell of Kastrol why then I don't know what to say except....sorry man...those days are nearly gone. I can smell the spent fuel right here in my office while watching this video....weird.

Kiwi - Thanks for posting. That vid brings back some good memories. A good friend raced an 86 Cr500 while I raced an 87 CR250 in that era. I rode the 86 5 hunndy & the engine felt like a beast to me since I only weighed about 175 lbs. back then.

I had a 1984 CR500. It was terrifying.

Thing is, this bike would never have seen a track this smooth in its life, hardly any bumps, just jumps and whoops. If tracks had been like this in 86, i would never have bought a 250,

So cool. You can here the hard hitting light switch powerband that the 84 500 was known for............

Not for nothing (whatever that actually means) that's Craig Anderson who is Chad Reed's cousin who I'm pretty sure Reed credits with his desire to race pro

Yes, a few OZ titles, winner of Southwick 03 on his way to 7th that year in 125/250F class, then 15th OA in 250/450 in 2004 - and back to OZ for more racing.

A former International rider, on a well set up high 50 HP bike, rounding up what I suspect are riders perhaps not of that caliber, is not at all surprising.

Did he recently ride a round of the OZ series on the '89 (I think it was) CR500 we saw prepped for him? I'm guilty of not paying too much attention to our scene here, lately. Unending House related renno's and frame making commitments are keeping me 'grounded'.

A beast to start. I bought mine used in 85 for $900 plus a fork seal. Raced it in 85 and sold it after the season...

They just wouldn't start and were just impossible to jet for some reason.

Shit happens with a 27 year old bike.

Just as shit happens with bikes that probably are only a few months, or even weeks / days old - I daresay there were a few of those 'aged' bikes, that carked it at the event. Woohoo

It always is - especially when a rod is poking through a hole in the cases............ That's Honda's regular 'go to' in the past, and it's always going to be a good fall back. But, nowadays, it's a bit more (honestly) applicable.
