Hi
My wallet spoke and I got a new '17 Husqvarna TC250. I'm short at 5'5" and really would like a electric starter for this monster. Has anyone done this???? I'm 99% certain the KTM 250 SX will be same conversion. Any help appreciated!
Thanks in advance

Never heard of the SX's or the TC's being able to use the electric start.

I'm sure you can add it.
You could on the last few model years.
Look up the KTM XC or the Husky version and look through the parts list.
They are the same as the SX/TC.
Probably cost quite a bit.
Call Munn Racing, they will probably be able to set you up.

You really need to add weight to start a 250 ? I mean, my 300 fires 1 kick or cold.

Maybe 2 kicks cold if its sat a few weeks.

the cases come from the same casting between all 250/300cc KTM's and Huskies this go around. But, just looking at my TX (and what I can see of photos online of the TC/SX) it looks like the cases are machined for the starter motor on models that have them, and not on the ones that don't.

This would mean either having some machine work done or buying the right side engine case. Either way, that's a full teardown, with a complete engine gasket set and lower end bearings before you even get to the additional costs of the starter motor/harness/battery and whatever else required for a clean, O.E. installation. Even if you we're willing to cough up the dough, parts are in short supply for these models and it could be a while before you rounded them all up.

The cases are machined for the starter. Would not surprise me to see a kit in the 2017 hard parts catalog.

Katoomey is correct.

My '17 TC has the battery tray in the air box, but while the mounting threads are there, the starter port is solid and would have to be machined open to add the starter.

My bike does start 1 kick...when I take care to find TDC and preferably stand on a crate or have the bike in a rut. Sometimes it sucks to be short!
I was in a race during summer,, a buddy had a SX 300 model. We collided and went down. He hit the starter button and was GONE before I had a chance to re-fire my CR250. For that reason,,I want a starter if I can. Sucks having to roll bike to a berm so you can be above it and finding TDC when others just push a button and are peeling off...

I read the machining part,,,maybe case needs hole cut out where starter nose would insert?,,

I will plug Lojaks Cycles of Tarentum Pa, and Ryan Lojak for hooking me up with a Awesome deal out the door far cheaper than anyone around here. It was worth the patience(and minimal cost) to have shipped 1100 miles. It was in stock and thousands cheaper out the door price than other local KTM,Husky dealer quoted me..No 'set-up', 'dealer shipping fee"ect ect, and 500 less than MSRP.

You might be better off buying a Rekluse Core. Cheaper anyway, and far less hassle.

If you get the dimensions for the "cut-out" in the cases, it shouldn't be too difficult to machine it out. That same dealer will probably make you a deal on the starter-kit. Nice plug, btw. Good dealers deserve a shout-out!

I'd do this in a heart-beat. Why? I, too, am a short guy and I LOVE the button on my current bikes:
FE350
450SXF

It DOES come in very handy when I stall or fall in challenging terrain.

Having a starter button during a race accident is almost like cheating. I was certain my buddies KTM300 was not running when I pulled it off my bike and him laying underneath..because if it was I'd have hit his kill switch(safety you know!). Next time I'll have to remember and unplug his battery or starter switch...for my safety of course. Wouldn't want to get shocked picking his bike up off mine. If you can't beat them...join them.
