I think this should go in the tech section but there is not many people there.

I have a 2013 crf450r and the clutch pull is ridiculously hard compared to Kawi, Yamaha, Suzuki.. ect..
I am wondering if there is any modification I can do to make a 2008 or lower cable work on my bike to lighten the pull?
The Hinson reroute is 200 and that's crazy.
I heard of people cutting the actuator arm and then welding it counter-clockwise 90 degrees and then using the 2008 cable and bracket to reroute it for under 50 bucks.. Does anyone have any input on that or any pictures?

When you extend the actuator you are decreasing the clutch push rod movement. That means you have to pull the clutch lever a longer distance to make the clutch disengage.

The CRF450X clutch cable will fit on the 450R. It has a more gradual bend at the engine case, so it has a smoother, easier action.
Make sure to use cable lube, too.

So don't get that extender in the link above?

Just get a 450x cable?

I haven't used the extender. The 450X cable with a clean and lubed lever/perch work good for me.

You do need to wrap heat shield tape around the lower portion of the clutch cable- to protect it from the heat of the exhaust pipe.

Go to daystarmx.com and click on "4mm Clutch Arm Extension". This amount of extension reduces the force needed to pull in the lever by about 12%. I am a horrible clutch abuser and run stiffer clutch springs (I use the Pro Circuit springs) and this mod brings the clutch lever pull force about back to stock. Also, the 4mm extension widens the engagement window which is probably just as big of an improvement as the stock CRF450 has an almost light switch clutch engagement.

Why not just buy the OEM parts from the older bike?

It's what I did for my 250F.

I have NO idea how to get to the actuator, though. I do have the '09 250F bracket, actuator, cable and other parts. Hoping to put it on this weekend.

09 is the same route as the 10-14 bikes though? not sure what your doing??...

has anyone put on a 2002-2008 cable, bracket, actuator on a 2009-2014 crf?

On TT a guy said that he cut his actuator arm and then rewelded it counter clock wise 90 degrees and put an 2008 cable and bracket on.. Does anyone have any pics of this?

Unfortunately, this guy is right. The easy fix is the hydro clutch!

I always lengthened the arm, about a half inch usually because the cable can begin to get a bad angle on some bikes.

Never noticed it at the bar because when up against the point of disengagement it takes very little movement to release the plates.

Advantage can be gained inside also. The arm pushes on a rod thru the tranny shaft. Most have a ball between the two.

Where that ball contacts the flat end of the arm determines the mechanical advantage.

You can give the rod a little more slack by a screw and jam nut on the pressure plate.

This moves the contact point out the face a little, giving better advantage

But,this lets the arm swing a little towards the cable housing,I've had some bikes that needed a cable mount mod.

I always ended up with butter smooth clutch.

Litz Racing has a really cool set-up that uses a small pulley. The pull is lighter than a 125, lighter than hydraulic. Last I talked to Steve they were working on the manufacturing to reduce the cost. Sorry can seem to find a pic.

No it is Litz. They had them on several race bikes in the shop and Steve had one on his personal bike the last time I was over. He said he was working on a deal to have them made overseas to reduce the cost and be able to sell them cheaper.

I have 2013 crf 450 with stiffer hinson springs. only about 10 hrs on the bike, my clutch pull is not bad at all. How many hrs on your bike? did u try replacing stock cable? cable runs close to exhaust & the heat makes them wear out faster. A new cable always makes pull easier for me. I don't lube my Honda cables, I think they are Teflon lined & lube just attracts more dirt & grime. How is basket & inner hub? if they are worn/notched this will cause harder lever pull. If you really want to solve problem for good, get magura hydo clutch, they make assy's that fit crf's.

I replaced the cable about 8 hours ago.
My bike probably has about 80 hours.
I keep everything fresh.
The pull has been hard since it was brand new but now I am racing a higher class and longer race and all the hard pull clutching is starting to take a toll on me haha..
I might just buck up and buy a Rekluse and fix all the clutch problems! :D
Haha.. Thanks for your guys replies!

Notched basket or inner hub does not make the clutch pull harder. When you pull the lever all you are doing is moving the pressure plate away from the outermost plate.

Symptoms of a notched basket or inner hub are a clutch that drags or creeps even when you pull the lever or slips even when fully released.

Now the grooves in the wells of the pressure plate or on the bolt towers of the hub from spring wear can cause some heavy clutch pull as the springs drag on them when you pull the clutch and they compress.
