I bought an 07 YZ450 the other day for the forks. It's complete, and not in bad shape except for the head which is off and gone. There is a very slight mark on the piston where one of the valves hit but I don't think it's enough to have done any damage. Everything on the bottom end seems fine but I'd pull it apart before I spent any money. I bought it without a title but after talking to DMV I think I can get the title without much if any back reg. Just guessing I'd say it has 75-100 hours on it. I paid $700 so I might be able to get it going for another 8 if I patiently watch Ebay.

Should I

"A" do my original plan, take what I want for my YZ, and part it out.

"B" find a used head and put it back together, I don't have a 450 and would love to have one again for longer off road stuff, I'm about 10 years past caring if I have a new bike or a good 10 year old one.

Or

"C", swap the forks with my 03 YZ, sell the engine, carb, and electronics and put in an XR200 engine I've been building for just such a rolling chassis for a bike to follow my 7 year old around the woods.

Did you get that bike in the central/north California a couple days ago? We called on one for a grand and the dude said someone was almost there to pick it up for 750..great parts bike, we were going to make it into another flat tracker.

It was local in Grass Valley, the guy had it on FB for about a month. When I saw it a month ago it was 750, I just didn't have any extra $$. Looked like hell but once I started cleaning it up it's not in too bad a shape.

"A" was my original plan, the 200 motor was going in a steel frame of some kind but once I get possession I do anything I can to not sell it. I'm not a real good flipper.

If I just part it out I'm keeping suspension, wheels, and a bunch of other parts so it will just be a box of parts.

I still have a 07 i bought new, fcr carb is a finicky lil bastard but can be tamed...somewhat. The bike feels very heavy and vibrates more when compared to a new bike but other than that its a great bike to have fun on at the sandpit or racetrack. I dont recommend woods riding with it, shes a real workout in the tight singletrack stuff.

That's what I'll do if I keep it. They're pretty dialed, I just don't want to do everything else I'm doing to the YZ and not do the SSS swap.

The woman I talked to on the phone never corrected me but it's actually an 08 so I think I'm going to see if I can get it going if I can get the title.

The 08 “Actually Turned” GL on the podium of one of the 2007 nationals hahah

Can you make a YZ250 af with it? Steel frame is better but wanted to toss in option D.

I would try to find the parts (used) off like ebay keep it as inexpensive of a rebuild as possible of course youre not gonna half ass it but if not being used for moto you may just create one of those bikes that never dies and you were able to get it in good running shape for 1k all in .... definitely swap the forks, I think the shock is equally as good no?

Started watching Ebay yesterday, an 09 head and a shit ton of extra somethings popped up with a Buy It Now of $450. Hopefully the head is what it says it is, I can ID some of the stuff, and get a few bucks back. Anyone notice anything right or wrong with the head which was marked 09 or any of the other stuff. The big stuff looks like it could all be 09 450, the stuff in the tub ???

Not much help, but the black engine covers screams '09, as I'm sure you know.

Did he show a pic of the cam journals? That's one thing you should be worried about, if they are good that seems like a good deal to me.

I saw it an hour after it was listed and spent about 15min researching 09, with what they've been selling for I doubt it would have lasted long enough to get a reply. Even it that needs to be repaired it looks like it's about $150. There's got to be another $2-300 that can be made out of the rest of the stuff. From the looks of the pile of stuff the bottom end grenaded and that's what's left. I don't see how I can lose much even if the head is junk I should be able to get at least my money back in pieces.
