full fmf mega bomb big bore moose rims new race tech suspension all modded out. new tires was just redone this spring. He said he has recipes for all the work at a local shop clean title. He has tons of extra parts and all stock parts stock pipe stock wheel set etc.

What do you think?

I have an 08 CRF 450R I think all parts match up?

How much? Link doesn't work. Plan on doing a valve job right away.... They revised the valve seats from the '04 which were notoriously bad, but they still aren't quite up to snuff in my opinion.

Edit: the big bore probably means they have revised the valves.

First, ask if the seller speaks English because I can't tell by reading the ad. Second, go through everything engine-wise with a fine-tooth comb; because even then, buying a used 250f is a gamble. If it starts easily, compression seems good (a leak-down test would not be a bad idea), and the shifting seems smooth it could be a good buy. I would never pay $2500 for an '05, though.

I have an 08 Crf 450r built to the max!

Just wanted to pick something up to have for a second bike and for any of my friends to ride and when I sell it get my money back!

Has new plastics graphics and a new set of the throw back grey plastics and graphics asv levers
Athena big bore and piston race tech all done by a shop with receipts or 7k invested kid needs money. Was not planning to buy a bike but thought it might be a good deal.

Don't know anything about the 05 CRF 450r

I say go for it. If it needs work and some TLC why not? sounds like you did up or 08450 just fine... If this the bike needs to much work you could fix it up to sell or part it out and break even.

I tend to stay away from the bikes that are tricked out with aftermarket parts.

I'd much rather buy a completely stock bike.

That's what I was thinking!

Ya you are right! 1000-1300 maybe worth it. Because if it does blow up I could part it out and get my money back!

I would add in the cost of a complete engine overhaul and whatever the cost of freshening up everything else you would want to do and then look at what you will have invested. 05 250F.....truth is, disposable bike at this point.

Mick....be extremely careful on buying a used 250F. You have to be a little weary even on the 450's,.....but the 250F's have a lot shorter shelf life than the 450's.

I have had some vet buddies out here in the NW that have had mixed reviews on the 250F's. They are a fun little bike for sure , but still require constant up keep on the top end , valve train , ect because they rev so damn high. Parts are a lot lighter for weight savings.....hence they wear out quicker.

Some guys stick with them....some guys have bad luck with them because they wear out so dang quick. One of my buddies picked up a new 2012 CRF250f a couple years ago. He got 23hrs out of it before the bottom end starting growling and making noise. He then went and picked up a 2013 and the top end went out on that thing at 24hrs!

This guy takes good care of his bikes , but got a bad taste in his mouth after those two experiences. BUT....with that being said....they are fun little bikes for sure! and some guys get plenty of time on them and never have problems as long as you keep up on the maintenance.

If you really want a used 250F......try to find a newer one , with very , very little hours. Good luck Mick and don't just splurge on a bike because it looks good. Inside is what counts.

Ya Im going to hold off and wait till I buy a new 450 and keep mine as a spare.

Jeff I love my 08 CRF 450r probably the best bike I have ever owned. I love it! I modded it up bikes like brand new will post some pics when I get it complete. That bike is like brand new 1st owner was an old guy that bought it in 09 and second owner broke his wrist the 1st year he got it and then had the top end and valves redone by a local mx pro shop that everyone goes to and had the suspension done too! The next summer the kid broke his leg riding Bmx. The bike just sat in his garage for 3 years or so. I know he was telling the truth because when I pulled the carb apart it was full of gunk cleaned it put new jets and R&D float bowl thing runs like new.

That's great to hear on the CRF Mick! I loved my 08' Honda and only had one complaint. When i pushed it really hard it seemed like I could never get the suspension to settle in the way I wanted it too. felt un-predictable. I raced 250 Int , 30 A/B and +25 A/B for quite a few years....and when I'm feeling good I can push a bike pretty hard at times. ( that gets less and less though with time haha ) . But that Honda never let me down as far as it running strong and was always " Ol' faithful " when it came to my bikes!

The RM......that is still a question mark for me right now since I haven't been able to ride it just yet. I've had it for about 2 weeks , but with work and some other stuff that has come up I haven't had a chance to ride it yet. " Hopefully " next weekend. But dang....it's been so damn warm here ( 85-95 deg ).....I've been playing in the water more thatn anything else.

Mick.....do you have a suspension specialist that is local? Someone that can get parts from places like FC , Race tech , ect? I've always believed in using the local guys , especially if they are at the tracks and so forth so they can help tune it in.

I've heard a lot of really good things about FC when it comes to the Showa stuff. RG3 is another really good bet too. But it depends on where you'll be riding at. If it's going to be set up for MX , than that's a little different than going out on single track or some type of offroad riding.

IF it needs to be done from the ground up with new seals , fluids , springs and possibly some valving , it could get up to around $700.00 - $1000.00. But it can get quite a bit more than that depending on what you may want.

Had a buddy that put the full RG3 " Diamond kit " on his 2013 RMZ450....and he said it was the best stuff he's ever used. I've ridden with some modified A-kit stuff on a few different bikes as well......and compared to stock it almost felt like it was a cheater bike...it was that good.

BUT.....I've also rode other bikes with suspension done.....and it didn't feel good at all. Everyone is different on what they want. But do some searching and see if there is a well known , local shop that will help you out first. If you can't locate one.....then maybe go to a few local races and see what the hot ticket is around that neck of the woods. Ask lots of people though! Don't go by what just ONE DUDE says!

OH.....one thing on the 08' Honda that I found out later was.....that in the forks , a lot of the suspension guys wanted to remove the Mid Valve! The mid valve is very harsh so they remove it completely. I had mine taken out and it really helped on high speed braking bumps and acceleration bumps compared to stock.
