I would not recommend it.

They're good handling, but the motor left a lot to be desired power wise for a 125. The Yamaha is just light years ahead of the rest.

The '06 I rode was just amazing. It could turn INSIDE of my '12 CRF.

Just blew my mind how smooth, soft, and nimble it was.

The motor had terrific power delivery.

It depends on what kind of rider you are. I am pretty fond of that gen cr125. It's so light and handles so well. With a vforce, pipe, giant rear sprocket, and jetting you are going to have the time of your life keeping the thing hauling around the track. Or for about the same price, just buy an Athena 144cc kit. The yz will have nothing on it. But if your skills and fitness are low, I'd steer clear of any 125. Plus a Honda will always be a Honda...

If you can find a used 06-current YZ cheaply that would be my suggestion there. Tons of parts available, great handling, and pulls hard for a 125. I was the only 2 stroke at one of my last local SX races in 07, and holeshot over a whole field of 250f bikes ridden by smaller riders. The power is there, you just have to be in the right rev range to take advantage of it.

if it had a perfectly spaced 6sp trans it would be totally fine, but the fact that it has a weirdly spaced 5sp and huge gaps between 1-2-3 coupled with a sub par engine = not the greatest

nice trans and sub par engine can be dealt with

I agree with dirthead1, the YZ has a better motor out the box, but IMO Honda has better quality...

I wont lie and say that I don't have a thing for the KX, I love that bike. I have ridden all of the 125's and the RM's are also a great bikes. I would say that it handles a bit better than the KX but the KX has got the better engine.

Those Hondas handle pretty well, but the engine setup is summed up by the term GUTLESS. Don't let that discourage you though, you can make anything fast. Sell me that 04 Kawi....

Honda quality, but like everyone has said, gutless power. Kids on KTM85s will be pulling you down loamy straights.

The CR is a great handling, lightweight, bulletproof bike. Like these guys have said though, it is a little low on power compared to the YZ. I've been more than happy with my CR, but if I were in the market for another 125, it would be a Yamaha.

had an 04 Honda, rode my nephews 06 YZ and we had the Honda for sale the following weekend and bought the Yamaha.

the Yamaha felt a little bigger, had better suspension, and the power wasn't even close.. forget the others and get the Yamaha..

I just happen to have an 06 YZ 125 for sale. Even with shipping, it is still a good deal.

The 2005 CR 125 and 2004 CR 125 are different animals.

what about ktms? my 02ktm125 motor will smoke any stock yz125 motor but the bike handles like crap, not sure about the newer ktm125s.
and the 05KX125 is a sweet year, one of the sexyiest sounding bikes ive ever heard with just a pc pipe/vforce, great power, great handleing. look what bubba did on that bike. lol I always wanted to put my ktm125 motor in a honda or kx125 chassis, it almost happend....
but yea my bored out kx80 to 112cc's was faster than the honda 125s pre mod05's,

this is true, I just think with stock platforms the Yamaha is a better overall bike than the others...

I used to have an 06 CR125, best bike I ever owned. Handled like a dream. It wasn't the fastest 125 in the world, but it had enough power to get me over this nice huck that Elsinore used to have way back in the day. I'm sure there's a few guys around this place that remember this jump. Really miss that bike.

I had one, so slow, but so much fun. Honestly the most fun I've ever had on a motocross bike.

Yes.... Wil is running a factory FC CR125 engine. Far different from the "stock" 2004 power plant.

Here is Lamy's engine:

I though I read the better Hahn did in last years SX serious, the more old factory parts the team gave him for his 125. Anyone have close up of his engine? I know the silencer is not a part you can buy - carbon fiber PC. And I will bet money that bike is not stock. Far from stock.

This is Lamy's 2007 Engine:

The motor was originally developed by American Honda and Honda of Japan. It has the long rod motor, which we ran, a works crankshaft to go along with it, works transmission, works cylinder, it has mechanical (HPP) exhaust valves, all works. It has the last version of the pipe that we used, which we got from Mitch Payton.

The stock 2004 has a RC valve. The HPP valve is not on the 2005-2007

And yeah..... I think I miss spoke.

Making Steve Lamson's CR125:

Motor - Creation of 2002, '03 and '04 parts. There are no more like this on the planet. We had three complete engines left. They are worth maybe 40 grand each
