I currently own a KTM 350xcf and have had several KTM's for the past 8 yrs. However, I still don't get why people choose a XCFW over an XCF. So the XCF has less power and a wider gear ratio....and my local dealer can't keep them in stock. Just don't get why I would get a lower powered engine in the W model vs. my XCF. What am I missing?

Caleb Ramsay, local Texas XC Pro, took a 300 XC-W (two stroke), removed the starter and put an SXS head on it. He said he wanted PDS still and wide gear ratio. Adding the SXS head got him the power delivery of an SX on the wide transmission on an XC-W. He says he took off the starter for weight, but that can't really be all that much.

I feel the opposite. The W is better in the rocks and your average trail ride, but I firmly believe the XC is a better race bike.

Just my opinion, but I raced a XCF-W at a GNCC...absolutely hated the transmission. A wide ratio transmission just isn't my cup of tea. I should note however, that I got my best finish of the year on that borrowed KTM....

Now that the XCF-W is but a memory, the gap between XC and EXC is even greater. Although the new EXC's are sweet. But why did they ditch the orange frame? Why, Santy Clause, why?
