I have always liked riding 250 two strokes. Something about the feel, smell and general responsiveness of these bikes is just something no other bike can duplicate. Can you go faster on a 450? Yes absolutely. But I'm in my 30s with 2 kids now so I don't care about speed and winning races like I did when I was racing almost every weekend.
This brings me to the YZ 250.
Back in 2004 I orderd a 2005 Yz 250 two stroke brand new. I was one of the first in the states to get one and it was awesome.
Here is a cool pic of me riding that 05 shortly after I got it. 5th wide!

My dad passed away this year.. I miss his grumpy ass. He always told me I rode that bike better than any other bike he watched me ride, so I decided to get another one and do a decent build to remind me of 05 and going to the races with my pops.
Here is the starting point.
Near new 09 YZ 250

Some of the parts were ordered. Genuine Yamaha Plastic with air box to update the look a bit, pipe combo, some CR high bend fat bars, fasst co anti vibration bar inserts, A wiseco racers choice single ring piston and a Boyesen Rad valve to start off with.

I like the look of the carbon fiber pro circuit silencer but just can't justify 300 bucks for one. So I made my own. Little ghetto but what the hell. More money in my pocket for other shit like entry fees and gas.

What to do about suspension??
A member on here was selling a nice set of kit suspension for a while and I kicked the idea around for a long time. Keep the stock and revalve or get the kit stuff with psf-1 forks, a very trick 2 piece shock and try it out. The price was right so I bought the kit suspension. I've never had a set of air forks so we will see how these work compared to a set of springers.

I spent some time, took the castings off, polished and cleaned the suspension up real good.

Some carbon fork decals to match my silencer and cleaned up the bolts. Ordered a shock spring and painted it. Also installed a new shock spring thrust bearing kit. I can feel this bearing is doing its job in 3rd gear choppy on the gas situations.

Killer deal for such a clean bike and an even better reason behind the build - Very nice!

Looking pretty good, you could snag a R304 sticker for your silencer from PC for like $13

Got the rear brake and kick start detailed a bit. Also added some color to the pipe and pipe badge.

If you're original purchase of the bike was in the North East it would have sold for $ 3500.00 to $3800.00 easly. Nicely done.

Pro circuit clamps anyone?? !! Woohoo I have always felt like Yz's in general have a vague feeling front end once you get into 3rd gear. I really notice this vagueness in slightly off camber turns at the moment you roll off the gas and start your lean in. It may just wash without a warning. Ask me how I know! I'm excited to try these because they have a little less offset than stock. This should put a little more weight on the front and could help this feeling for me. Plus they are cool!

I cut the upper caliper guard mounts off for a bit of that factory swag. Cleans up nice with some elbow grease.

I've been waiting to see this build for a while! Can't wait for a ride review of the suspension. The shock looks better than it ever did.

Now these are sweet! I'm not the first to find these but I had to have one. Very trick little part. Plus it matches my forks and ghetto silencer!

Also picked up a rear brake clevis by Zeta. Good stuff and it was online for 12 bucks shipped. Yes please.
