Ok guys, this was given to me. Guy said it was seized. Finally decided to start tearing into it. I'm not going to do a full resto on it, just want to make it a solid bike I can go have fun on.

The frame is straight as a pin. I don't think it has any stripped bolts or nuts. Just really filthy and neglected. We're going to rectify that ASAP.

I thought the throttle cable was froze up till I pulled the carb off. Mmmmmm, lots of mouse poop and pee. This sum bitch smells nasty!

Not a bent tube or rail on the frame that I can find.

I was able to take a hammer handle and tap the piston down so it's not welded together, the the piston and head are showing signs of detonation and/or damage from head leaking water into the combustion chamber. Can anyone tell from the shot of the head whether I should find another or can this one be doctored up?

The 88 rm 250 I bought had mice in airbox & carb just like yours, I could not get that carb to work correct again! Dam mice! Cool bike..... Can't beat free.....

Free is a good thing. Just running through a list of all ne bearings for wheels, suspension linkage. Swing arm, steering, and ne for bushings at Motorsport.com, I'm up over $350. Then I have to rebuild the motor, new front tire, side panels, and a few things I'm missing. Hoping to have it done for under $1000

Downard 254, please keep updating this. I am hoping to get my 83 up and running one day. It has the long rod conversion that was recommended for the 84, a YZ 60 ignition and several other of the Yamaha wrench reports recommendations for the 83.
I can also, use any part supplier recommendations too!

Will do, I've made a list of all parts I want/need, and searching for best pricing. I'll post the list of where I wound up buying when I get done. I'm not trying to make a perfect restoration, I just want it to be in top notch rideable condition. The bike "Looking nice" would just be a bonus. I'll probably sell it within a year of completion. I'd really like to find a clean rebuildable '85 RM250. That's what I raced back then.

Well, I had a little time yesterday and decided to pull the reed block off, and well, I found some little pieces of aluminum up in the reed block area.

As I was naturally curious, I pulled the jug to investigate further. This is what I found.
